Range Report 7mm Mag Questions

I have a Tikka T3 Lite in 7mm Mag. The barrel has a 9.5 twist rate.

1) What is the heaviest bullet I can run (with accuracy), with the 9.5 twist?

2) Is there any factory 7mm mag match ammo available?

3) What ammo have other Tikka 7mm mag owners found to be accurate?

I don't own a Tikka but a 168 and possibly a 175 will be the heaviest round you will be able to shoot. I personally would go with a 168. HSM makes match grade hunting ammo that I would definetly give a try. They do two loads that I have tried, a 168 Berger VLD going 2950-2990 or so, and a 168 Seirra Matchking going close to the same velocity. The Bergers were more accurate in my rifle. Good Luck

The HSM is great ammo for the non handloader. They give great service too, and sometimes you can find it at retailers like cabelas, bass pro etc.

Berger has a 180 VLD and Sierra has a 180 HPBT Matchking bullet

The 175 SMK and 162 Amax are similar in length, I've heard success stories for both in 9.5tw 7mm rifles.

I have a buddy with a 24" WSM 9.5 twist and he has no problems stabilizing the 180gr Berger. He is at roughly 1'k D.A. Just because he can stabilize it doesn't mean you will, but it is an encouraging sign.
