What are you shooting at that range, it it's 'lopes you're making dead animals, if it's elk at 600 yds I'd bet you'll be OK on a broadside, but I might start to worry on a quartering shot at that range.
That said, if I get to go out west and hunt elk in the near future I'm taking my 7mmRM. Around here in TN, it only gets to come out of the safe if I just feel I need to shoot a deer with something other than a 308.
