Re: 7mm rem mag to 300wm Help
now, it seems like this turned into a "which will net a tighter group at a mile" debate. I'm just like this guy. I have a rem700 donor that I'm building into a 300 Win Mag. Yes, there are quite a few great 7mm bullets. Mine, in current configuration (off the pawn shop shelf 250 cash ADL a la Walmart) is currently holding sub-3/4 inch MOA with Nosler Ballistic tips. It's going to be my deer gun for the year, and after that, it'll get a makeover into a 300 Win Mag tactical gun.
The defense for this transition lies in the 300wm's current standardization as a sniper cartridge, and the ability to find accurate store-bought ammo (not that I'm preparing to ever sink that low again... I'm hooked on uber-geeky calculations and tight tolerances). Plus, being military, if that commie zombie brigade every pops down on these green shores, I bet the military won't have much 7mm rem mag ammo on hand to use. Now, that last statement makes about 99 audacious assumptions, such as:
1. they'd actually give a sailor a gun
2. they'd actually give a sailor a gun on an army base.
3. they'd actually give a sailor a box of sniper ammo, much less a rifle, from an army base.
4. they'd actually let a sailor out of his cubicle long enough to catch a scent of cordite and zombie guts.
5. etc... etc... etc...
so, willing to forego the 7mm in exchange for the 300's popularity. When a single well-funded, tactical organization (other than the dozen or so secret service snipers) start using and distributing cast quantities of available, accurate ammo, I might switch back. Hey, the 7mm is a nice bullet.
