I have a new remington 700 cdl sf that im looking at re chambering to a 7mm RUM or a 7mm STW, my goal is light weight long distance hunting rifle. i have the stock, scope, break and trigger all on order and the only thing left is the caliber. any input would be nice, ive been looking at ballistics on both and was wondering if anyone had any first hand knowledge of either.

Re: 7mm RUM vs 7mm STW???

Only you can answer this question. Pick the bullet you want to shoot, then research the ballistics of the calibers you're looking at with that bullet. The faster you push it, the less barrel life. It's all a give and take. These are both fast 7mm rounds.

Re: 7mm RUM vs 7mm STW???

I have a 7rum and i really enjoy shooting it at longer ranges.

7rum + 180vld= one bad ass round. Especially at 1000 and beyond.

the 7rum will push bullets a little faster and does not have a belt.

What kind and how long is the pipe?

Re: 7mm RUM vs 7mm STW???

The 7 RUM is a big boomer. I had a 7STW and made prairie dog kills at just over 1100 and 1600 yds with it. Yes, they were the unluckiest PDs in TX. just saying the STW has some reach too. The RUM burns a lot more powder.

Re: 7mm RUM vs 7mm STW???

The 7rum really comes alive when it is equiped with a longer barrel.

Just about 10 to 13 more grains. it is real easy to justify if you run a 28 to 31 inch barrel. Besides, i like blowing a 100 grains of powder down the tube each shot, makes me feel like a real american patriot. haha
