Wondering if anybody is having the problem of their seating die leaving a circular ring on the bullet’s ogive? I use a Bonanza Co-Ax, and it allows very gentle seating pressure. My Redding seater die works fine for Hornady 75gr bullets, and does not leave the ring. However, when loading the 90gr SMK, the ring shows up every other bullet, sometimes more often, no matter how gentle I am with seating pressure. Does anyone use a modified seater die to cure this, or have any ideas of a die that doesn’t mark the bullet?
Thanks for any suggestions. I don’t know if the ring is detrimental, but my guess is it doesn’t help a bullet’s flight characteristics.
I searched, and found many threads on this problem. With my die, I only get the ring mark when using the 90gr bullets. I am hoping that someone makes a special seater insert that can accommodate the shape of the heavy .224 bullets.
