Yes... in his pants...
Another reason to carry a sidearm...
I generally recommend lubricating the sidearm with bacon grease. So when you throw the empty pistol on the ground, the bear might stop and sniff it long enough for you to get up a tree!
Whoever above said "lucky it was a blackie" was right. A brownie would have turned out different and far bloodier. Though the Go Pro audio would have been quite epic.
Bears are not to be fu***d with. They aren't all picnic baskets and forest fires. Especially big alphas.
Pistols? 12 gauge with slugs. And better know how to use it. How many seconds did that incident last? From the moment when the bear started to get aggressive to it whacking the guy down? 3 seconds? 4? Can you perceive danger, draw a weapon, fire it accurately, stop bear... in that time?
Translate that to a car stop.... that goes bad. How many seconds does an officer have to process, decide, act and save his/her life? Apply the OODA Loop to bears... and you don't have much time. They act out of instinct. You act while thinking things through... unless you have trained to react instantly.
Did I mention... don't fu** with bears?
Cheers,
Sirhr
This guy was missing an important piece of hunting gear.
A partner that is slower than he is.
