I just received my scale, it powers up fine and the display/buttons work, but nothing happens when I put weight on the plate. When I try to calibrate it shows code (-cal E) with a 100g weight. There is zero movement when I apply pressure to the plate, almost like the post is locked solid. Am I missing something? Thanks.

If you see -cal or -E errors the balance thinks there's not enough weight on it. This can happen if you power it up with something on the pan and then remove the object and try to re zero or calibrate as the balance uses the initial zero at power on as the reference for the weight of the empty pan.

Make sure the pan is installed ok but nothing else is on it, then power cycle the balance and let it initialize. Once it turns on and reads zero see if it will weigh your cal weight before going into calibration mode, it should read close to 100g even without calibration.

You should let it soak in the same temp environment powered up for about 30 minutes before trying to calibrate it.

Also, you really will not feel or see the pan move on these, so don't go pressing on it expecting to feel it move.

Thanks for the info. The unit has been on for several hours now but still does not recognize any weight.

Interesting. Maybe the newest ones have some kind of shipping/transport lock? I've used other balances with transport locks, but my older fx120i doesn't have one.

You may also want to try a factory reset of the scale, it's in the manual.

Another thing, maybe take a picture of the top of the balance with the pan removed and the bottom of the pan. Any chance one of the screws on the top of the balance isn't tightened all the way down and it's holding the pan up?

I was thinking transport lock but I can’t find any info. I did ask for help from CE products and A&D but it’s the weekend😕. There is plenty of clearance between the support pan and the screws, and with minimum pressure on the center post it sounds creaky, almost like there is some sort of interference.

On the bottom of the balance there should be a provision for a threaded hook to weigh things underneath the balance... Any chance something like packing styrofoam got wedged in there?

Not sure what else it could be, it's time for a phone call and probably an RMA unfortunately.
