He was CMC before my time, but he came down to Parris Island post retirement and I met him there. His goal was to shake the hand of every Marine on the entire base that visit, and I’m sure he did it too. I had a brief conversation with him right in the tower of Starlite range when I was Tower NCO there, and knew immediately all the legends about him were fucking true.

It was fun talking about the new rules and regulations that he was going to institute when taking over. IIRC there was a board on it. IIRC he allowed Marines to dress in modified charlies on leave so you would look like the recruiters. Since they are recognized by most of the public.
