A-Max 155gr .30cal load data needed

Re: A-Max 155gr .30cal load data needed

Did you try Hodgdon's website? I'm assuming you're trying to put it in a 308 Win, but maybe not.

If you find load data for those powders on a 150gr bullet you can start at the min and work up from there, or a 165gr bullet you would start around 50% between min and max listed

MT,

I haven't tried the Benchmark loads, I do think Hodgdon has some data.

Varget works very well with the 155 AMAX so I never got around to Benchmark.

on VV if N135 is appropriate their website should have some load data for the Lapua 155's to give you a starting range.

Don't waste the time with Varget. A great powder yes, but not so great with the lighter bullets and some may argue this and that's fine.
From personal experience I could not get the velocity from Varget as I did with Benchmark without having some pressure issues and needing to fill the case to the neck. Without referencing my data book I believe the load was around 44-45 gr of Benchmark with the 155 AMAX for a velocity right around 3000 fps with no signs of pressure at all in Black Hills/Win brass and a WLR primer.

VV 2006 pamphlet:

155 Scenar and N-135, 24" 1:12" test barrel:

Min: 34.4gr @ 2254 fps
Max: 40.7gr @ 2638 fps

155 Palma (2155) and N-135, 24" 1:12" test barrel:

Min: 35.1gr @ 2237 fps
Max: 41.3gr @ 2674 fps

I've found that this VV pamphlet is somewhat conservative, much like the Sierra manual, but don't take my word for it.

They don't list N-135 for the 155 Silver Jacket (moly) Scenar, FWIW.

N-135 is a pretty quick powder, perhaps N-140 might be a better choice, even with the lighter 150s/155s tips.

I used 42.5 grains of Benchmark with the 155 A-max for 2800fps and that's from the Sierra book. Shooting them out of a LTR. I'm still on the learning curve regarding Benchmark. In the past have used Varget, but it's tough to find for me.

i use a 44.5 gr charge of varget behind the 155 amax out of magtech brass right now...accuracy seems pretty good with it touching the lands...3 shots touching at 200 yds, then i had to screw up the nice little group with my bad shooting
