Re: A-Max's

dude you're comparing apples and pencil shavings....

while both are Hornady bullets, they are completely different in the type of ogive. One is a tangent the other a secant...

Each will engage the lands a little differently and probably shoot differently in your gun. Just because they are the same weight does not equal them make...
Both are great bullets, but know what the differences are before expecting like performance from each.

Now some may call both of these a secant ogive, but you must agree that the BTHP has more of a tangent ogive. It WILL engage differently that the Amax. They may very well shoot the same size groups, but your POI will shift between them. In my experience you CANNOT swap pills with like charges and expect same results. They may both print half MOA groups, but your POI will shift... That was my point.

Re: A-Max's

Theoretically. In practice, however, a 168gr SMK and a 168gr Hornady BTHP shoot the same. But they are different enough to warrant experimentation if your rifle does not like one or the other.

Re: A-Max's

Well I got to shoot the 168 AMAX's out at Tiger Valley today, up to 800 yds. I was surprised how well these traveled. I lost faith in them prematurely at 800 yards and tried driving some 175 SMK's, but without my ballistic tables, I f--ed myself pretty badly. I dropped the AMAX's back in was able to get a few center mast, but low before our time was up..
