Just my AM thoughts...shaped after 28+ yrs in the AF.
- Yes, this poll had an avg age of 39....but it also used Military Times subscribers...thats unique subset. Most of us view the Military times (aka the AF Times, Army Times, etc) as the equivalent of the National Enquirer. We might read a copy laying around, but probably not subscribe. It is NOT a DoD publication.
- Do not under estimate the number of D's in the military. I was shocked how many members (and spouses) voted for Bill Clinton in the day. Our local congresswoman (Lauria) is a retired Navy 0-6.
- While its easy to say officers and SNCOS are political as hell (and not totally untrue)...just remember, a vast majority of the military is under 25. It's amazing that based on the brainwashing they get via social media how many Active Duty do not like Trump. It used to be a big deal to bad mouth the Commander in Chief (still in the UCMJ) even on social media....now it's freedom of speech.
BL: The military is a slice of society and despite a uniform, the voting is pretty similar. Sadly, for many is a job, not an honor and calling. It's just something they do, not what they are. So their commitment to the country, the president and what's best for America does not run as deep. (Note, I said many, not all).
So despite my lake of faith in the military times, and probable bias from a Syracuse University poll, its probably fairly accurate.
