Is it traumatic? Maybe. Would I do it to my kids? Not sure. Do I think a guy needs a child abuse charge for doing it to his kid? No.

I didn't see in the video where they were throwing infant baby's up in the air and belly flopping. Traumatic experiences have long lasting negative results. It's proven, let them keep doing that and he may never learn how to swim because he won't want to do it. I think most people have minded their own business so much that were where were at today. A disgraceful society for the most part and a failing country. By the way, I was raised the old school way and I do beleive in that.

Were you also raised to make snap judgements on an individual based on about 8 seconds of video taken out of context and mixed into whatever spin the hair do's on local news thought would maximize the indignation and moral outrage of the viewer?

All I'm trying to get at, is there we know nothing about this guy. He could be a scumbag human being or he could be a great father. Most people on here who are parents, have kids who managed at one point or another to get themselves into a situation, that scared their parents so bad they over-reacted out of fear and a genuine concern for the well being of their kids.

Not to mention that prime witnesses against this guy, are his baby momma who probably has a bone to pick and her friend who was quick to provide the video and call the LEO. Having seen the evils a scorned woman is capable of, I'm going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt based on that alone.

I would also argue what the world needs is a bit more logic, common sense, and calm-headedness, and less snap judgements and instinctual emotional reactions. This is why I stopped watching the news, as it seems very focused on the latter while completely ignoring the former.

Two totally different videos here. I'm all for teaching the little ones how to do a survival float but this wasn't that. Dude tossed her halfway across the pool like a rag doll. He deserves way more than a beating.

You are an engineer and you're talking about logic.

Perhaps you can logically explain the context of throwing a one year old into a pool. Distance a least eight feet, height above water at least 4 feet.
The "father" states that he wants to teach "water safety".

You need to examine your personal sense of "Having seen the evils a scorned woman" and the psychology of one year olds.

Perhaps you can contact defendants council and testify as an expert witness in water safety. Use the theory that a one year old would be able to plane across the surface if thrown hard enough and that would be safer.

The kid will probably never forget it at some level. Could well fear water for the rest of its life. Im glad the rest of us have a bit of common sense.

What good that may come out of it is that the child may remember that thrown away by its father someone cared enough to come to its rescue.

I didn't want to go there before, but The Dreamin' Demon has some example of truly evil things that people do and this pool throwing incident has made the site. I may be desensitized, but there are individuals out there who are frankly evil and if I had to pick who I focused my violence on, this guy would not be on the top of the list.

While one may rank order levels of response to a given set of bad behaviour there have to be thresholds of what is acceptable. I concur that perhaps we dont know everything about this situation however that doesn't mitigate that this is wrong at every level.

As Maggot points out I would not be surprised if the baby forgets about the details of the incident but I doubt it will forget the person it should trust the most just hurled it, with force, face first into a pool.

I almost drown at the age of 6. While I'm sure at 6 you can remember more than a maybe a one year old. I can remember almost every detail from the taste of the water to the life guard who saved me. Since this was just short of forty years ago I can say it will stick with you.
I had my opportunity to repay the favor at 16 when a friend almost drown.
I have raised three children in and around water/swimming pool.
This isn't the way to teach children water safety.
At this age it is the parents responsibility to keep them away from the pool.
An infant cannot reason, thus decide between good or bad results.
