There are few creatures as beautiful or as deadly as the cobra.

Snakes Vertebrate Reptile Serpent Indian cobra

Naturally, men of our stock are attracted to such critters and for millennia have asked themselves "if only I could harness that beauty & lethality"...and our ancestors have forever thus tried to tame the beast only to find out generations later that the cobra cannot be tamed and once more-we found out that they're quite prolific and reproduce far faster than anticipated.

Did you know a single cobra can lay between 10-30 eggs? I didn't before going down this noble endeavor and before I knew what was happening- I was left with a snake pit as deadly as they are beautiful...

I sought to my elders, I looked towards our ancestors on how I could possibly reign in this den of cobras and wield their strengths while understanding their potential for harm and also appreciating their beauty and suddenly a solution was presented from of all places but the jungles of Vietnam...

I needed a bonafide snake-eater to watch over the rapidly growing snake pit... I searched high & low and found myself a true champion to watch over my flock...

    I've got to ask-

Far right of your picture- the reddish recoil pad... Is there anything special you do to keep that in that condition?

Reason I ask is I've seen a great many otherwise fantastic firearms have rubber recoil pads (often resembling that one on the right) that just degraded not from neglect but just because of age.

I bought it like that. I got lucky.

The old herters pads hold up really well. Silicone spray can bring one back if it is a bit dry.

    What !. No Easter egg
Nah- not in this one. Didn't occur to me to introduce an easter egg until I did a follow up post truth be told.

That said- I think it's a good one in that it's blatantly present for those that know but also frustratingly absent to others. But that wasn't part of this thread. Just wanted to talk 1911's and EB's here.

    Appreciate the response-

I inherited a Parker Hale in 7mm Magnum years ago from my uncle that was an absolute gorgeous specimen and had less than 20 rounds through her. My uncle kept up with the steel & wood but the butt pad absolutely disintegrated by the point I got possession of her.

Moot point I suppose but I ended up cleaning the rifle up and selling it years ago to funnel the money/proceeds back into my Aunt's coffers. I never really had much use for a 7mm Magnum but the Parker was really something gorgeous to behold (aside from the disintegrating butt pad).

That's funny right there, the last time I saw someone called boomer here it was @308pirate calling me out as boomer for questioning the uber tall LPVO AR mounts.🤣
I really am a boomer by demographic. And I thought that was funny. Made up for the shock and horror that this thread was not about bore snakes, which is what I had imagined.
