I don't know if this is the correct forum for this post but here goes.

I just bought a used Mcmillan A4 that has never been bedded and I don't know if its regular fill or "sniper" fill.

I called McMillan today and they didn't have any weights handy. What the person told me was that for my stock, (Rem 700 SA - BDL - decel pad only - no cheak adj), she had just weight one earlier with a cheak adj and sniper fill and it was 5.7lbs. So, I figured if I weigh mine and its regular fill, it should be somewhat less than that.

I hate to say it but the only scale I have is a damned bathroom scale,..I know, Iknow,..that sucks,..but I got 4.5 to 4.9 lbs.

I'm putting together a F/TR gun so weight is a factor. Does anybody have any weight data or is there a way to tell other than weight if I have sniper fill vs. regular fill?

Re: A4 Stock Weight

You can try taking it to the post office or a shipping place and see if they can throw it up on a scale for you to get a better idea of the weight. With the information that you've given thus far I'd lean toward it having sniper fill. My McMillan A5 is inletted for a Remington 700 SA, Badger M5, w/ saddle cheek piece and it weighs in at 4.0lbs with the standard fill.

Re: A4 Stock Weight

I know the A4 is heavier than the A5 even with regular fill.

My A4 is at 4.5 - 4.8 so I'm a 1/2lb over your A5 now,..which is not too far off. I suppose would guess there still might be a change that is is regular since its so close but I need to get a better weight measurement.

Re: A4 Stock Weight

I actually got a USPS scale and my A4 came out to be 3.7 lb - again this is for a rem 700-SA-BDL-no cheek adj. So, I guess I have a "standard" fill A4.

And just for the heck of it I weight the bolt, the bottom metal, and my bipod - this is an older rem 700 PSS

Bolt = .80lb
Btm Metal = .340 lb
Harris LMS 6-9 bipod = .950 lb
