Researching an AAC 300 Blackout build. Want to know who is producing the best barrel right now? Looking at 14.5-16" barrel.

Satern makes a great barrel, if you can ever get your hands on one.

I have a Delta Company Arms, has worked very well for me in 16" configuration. Don't have an SBR lower to work with at the moment so unable to comment on DCA's offering on barrels shorter then 16".

What makes the AAC barrel worth the price? I decided to build a .300 blackout and have been looking around and I can get a Delta company for just under $200 and a nitrided job doesn't cost $225. Is it just because it is stamped AAC?

We would not be able to sell barrels for that close to manufacturing cost because we would have to skip steps in development, testing, and production. Like running shoes, you can get something that works for much less than some others - so there is something out there for everyone and I want lots of companies to make 300 BLK products.

That is a good question!
Something I'm looking at now. If its a wear issue then at the price point you mentioned for the same cost as the more expensive barrels I could wear one barrel out for less money up front and buy another later. Basically spending the same amount just breaking the cost up. But part of what I'm looking for in my question is not "buy company x" but the reasons why "company x" is better then lower cost "company z".... This is still a relatively new platform and I'm still hashing out the details. I have no problem paying premium. But I do have a problem paying premium when I can get the same or better from another company.

AAC does not make a 14.5 inch barrel because it is too close to 16 inches and not worth dealing with NFA to save the 1.5 inches. AAC does not like the concept of perm mounting muzzle devices because then you cannot service the crown and gas system.

Was gonna send you a PM to keep the thread clean, but you aren't taking 'em...here goes: I'm waiting for a 14.7 LWRC M6A1 SL, to which I was going to have them pin an M4-2000 mount. I don't do full auto, and can't afford high round count shooting other than the periodic 3gun..which isn't all that high a round count either. As for the servicing the crown thing, you mean carbon buildup behind the mount? Likely to be a problem for a fair-weather shooter like me? I like the shorter barrel since it might be a tad stiffer than the 16 incher in the SL's pencil-barrel format. I don't want carbon breaking off the crown and making my groups go to pot, either, though.

Just being able to clean and inspect the crown. It is just something important to us. It does not matter to everyone or even most people. No doubt there will be 14.5 inch barrels out there. Some people want 18 inch barrel and we don't plan to make those either. We are doing 9, 12.5, and 16.

AP will only be further developed if we get a military order for it. There is a lot more interest in barrier-blind ammo.

That is all we use at the shop. Never had a problem with either barrel and both have been super accurate for us.

hey rsilvers i have a quick question, i am finishing my 300 blk build today and i have a 16in barrel, i got a carbine spring and heavy(3.9oz)buffer, will this be the correct buffer weight to use? i will be shooting all the various loads that are commercially available until i get dies. thanks!

That is good for an AAC or Noveske barrel. Not sure about others. Depends on the gas port size.

Sub sonic you'll be good with the 3.9 oz buffer.

Supersonic I'd suggest a 9mm buffer as there is a fair bit more gas to cycle BCG.

I don't have as much time on the 300 BO but is what I've seen with my testing while developing loads.

No. The spikes or tungsten buffers will do both just fine, on semi or full auto.

We've also found that accuracy improves if you heavy up buffer.

Little things make big difference.

Our test rifle (actually pistol) is an AAC 9" upper with an H2 carbine buffer in the lower. It runs fine with 220 subs, 125 and 110 supersonics, suppressed and unsuppressed.

I really like the 125s, we'll have those available at the first of the year. They are an interesting design from Sierra. Pointed meplat, Scenarish ogive, and flat base. They should be incredibly accurate out to 300+ yards.

Is anyone using/running any form of dampner on there rifle? Such as the PWS Enhanced buffer tube or Superior Shooting Systems buffer spring? I'm probably not going to run the PWS Enhanced buffer tube on this build but I was thinking of using the Superior Shooting Systems buffer spring or possible the new Spikes SS buffer spring. Just trying to narrow down which buffer weight to run with it. I'm planning to mostly run supersonic ammo.

One of our guys at the shop has a full on Superior Shooting System spring and carrier weight system in his 300BLK gun and it runs flawlessly with any kind of ammo. From 110s to the 220 subsonics.

Well I might as well knock out some more questions.
Would there be any benifit to running a plated/coated BCG as apposed to the standard milspec BCGs? I looked into Fail Zero and Spikes NiB. I've also been condiering the JP Full mass BCG with the JP enhanced bolt. Any thoughts on the JP full mass BCG or there enhanced bolt?
Right now I'm looking at just getting a DD BCG and calling it a day. But I'll upgrade if it would be benificial.

I like NiB as long as the dimensional tolerances are in spec - which means the parts had to be machined specifically for NiB rather than taking normal parts and coating them. Now sure who does it correctly vs incorrectly. Same with nitrided barrels. I like them when done correctly, but so many are not.

110 grain. Loaded OAL is the same as 5.56mm.

To answer the OP, I'm happy with my Noveske. No issues with the 1:8, but wish I'd gone with a shorter barrel since I use 220s more than anything else.

Noveske. Mainly because he uses better blanks so you get a better barrel from the beginning. Then it's a simple matter of picking your length based on intended application.

Yes, I get barrels for free from other manufacturers. Yes, I still pay full retail for Noveske barrels. Their consistency from barrel to barrel makes it more than worth it.

I currently have 2 ARs in 300blk.... one on a JD Machine upper and lower, Noveske barrel, built by BigJoe, and one on a Tactical Innovations reciever set and ER Shaw barrel that I built.

I haven't seen where the Noveske barrel is really worth $400+, but that's me

The 8 twist will do fine with the 220s. Our new shop gun is a 8" 8 twist and we shoot the 220s all the time with no problems.

So a Spikes T2 buffer (4.3oz) would be fine for both sub and super sonic ammo?
Or should I go heavier with a Spikes T3 (5.4oz) or even heavier with Spikes ST-9X buffer (8.5oz)?
I still would like to try the Superior Shooting Systems carrier weight and spring combo but there again I'm not sure what buffer to use with it...

I'm going to use Loki Weapon Systems for the upper part of my build. I think they use Satern barrels but I'm waiting to confirm this. They had a AAC 300 Blackout rifle featured in Special Weapons for Military and Police magazine not too long ago and it stated it had a Satern barrel. But it could have been a custom build...
Besides they did an excellent job with my last upper build and there customer service is outstanding! Erik Davis and Aaron Heagen rock!
