Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Dude... I'm down the street. PM me and I'll meet up with you and you can look at mine, lol...

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

If you are shooting at the same target at the same distance they are awesome.

If you need to make a quick transition, I feel the rear bag is faster. I really loved mine, until I had to make a transitional shot, then I saw the downsides to the mono-pod. On the flip side, it was extremely beneficial, having such a small rear support, that is there 100% of the time.

It may work out perfect for you, I have a hard time walking and chewing gum at the same time. I did not have the QK model though.

As far as side to side movement, I cant remember having any. IF there was, it was extremely minimal.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

For target use I like mine. However I improved it by milling a flat at 45* from deployed to stowed to allow it to be used for lower bipod heights. Before I had to run my atlas at the third notch for level use, now I can get allot lower.

IMHO, b+t should make them this way anyway.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Jeepocabra,

You should drop them a line and show them what you did. They may actually do something like that.

I got the QK model. From the description, it sounds like all you need to do is push the button and lift the buttstock to make adjustment. I should get it in a day or two. Well see how it works.

I use one with a Magpul PRS stock and also with a McMillan A5. I love it. Off a bench it is super precise. In the field it makes a great "handle" to help guide the gun and hold it tight to your shoulder. In the field I often don't have the time or set up to use it against the ground, but I am still glad it is there for the mentioned reasons. I also find that instead of adjusting it as I would on a bench I simply wrap my whole hand around it and make "macro" adjustments with the palm of my hand as the base and height is determined by where I am grabbing the monopod. This is easy to do very quickly and precise enough for most hunting shots.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Triad sells them, but thier shipping is twice as much as Accu-shot.

Ultraman550,

stack some stuff under your buttstock until you rifle is level. Then measure from the attach point to the surface your rifle is sitting on. Mine measured 4 1/2 inches. So, I bought one that give me adjustment above and below that measurement.

Nice, thank you Mutt.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Well,

I emailed Accu-shot two days ago and asked them when my order was going to ship ... since it had been over a week. I immediately got an email from Kody asking for my info. He said they don't have an order for me. Low and behold, I missed a step when ordering and my order never went through. So, Kody had me resubmit and all was good. He personally made sure the order went out that afternoon. Today, I'm sitting here looking at my rifle with the Monopod installed. Now, that's superb customer service. That's the kind of stuff that makes me want to recommend a company. Not sure what Kody did to get it to me so damn fast. The first order not going through was my malfunction not his. I can't even mail a letter to my neighbor and have it get there that fast ...... great job B&T.

Oh ..... I ended up getting the next one (BT04-QK) up for my B&C Tactical Medalist when I reordered. It give me more upward travel than the shorter one (using a 6-9 inch bipod). Works perfect. It is a little fatter than I expected it to be. But, the QK model rocks. No need to screw it up and down with your hand.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Here are some pictures of what I did to mine. It allows me now to have my atlas bipod on the lowest setting and have the rifle level or firing slightly up hill.

The next one we modified we got allot more drastic and machined more of the base to allow the monopod to tuck up tighter to the stock. This model was the lowest height quick adjust available.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

I'm not really worried too much about raising the barrel. If I lower my monopod all the way and still need to bring the barrel up. I can always extend the bipod legs a notch.

I do like the flexibility that your modification allows. My only concern would be possibly bending that adjustment bolt. It doesn't look like too heavy duty of a bolt.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

I love them!

Muttt, I'm glad Kody was able to satisfy and possibly exceeded your expectations, this gives me hope for that generation!

Jeepocabra, We actually did that modification in prototype (1999) and found that by doing so neither the stowed or 45 position would hold, meaning that even with the thumb-nut tight to the stock collar one could force the leg out of that position. And if we reduced the 45 flat area, to insure the stowed position would hold, the 45 would not. Is your experience different?

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Kasey, my experience is different, in both stowed and 45* positions the pod is locked down well. I can apply allot of pressure to mine in both directions without it being forced out of position. That said, we got somewhat lucky when we did mine, the next one required more work. I should also mention that while I am calling it a 45* angle, it is less than that when compared to the stowage flat.

On the second one we milled like this, the stowed position would not hold after milling the 45*. Se we got drastic and machined the stow flat at a more aggressive angel as well as removing some of the base thickness to allow the stowed position to run parallel to the mounting angle. I'll try and get pics later to better show what we did.

Scince I have your attention at this moment I would like to pitch an idea to you. Have you thought of making a monopod utilizing effectivly one half of the atlas systems detent locks. So that one could have the push button deployment monopod. Something like this would allow the user to have a very secure 90* and 45* deployment. If you kept the quick screw adjustment that the monopods have now you could have a fantastic accessory.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Well, Kody ensured I'll recommend your company to my friends in the future.

Really like your product too. Now I gotta save up and get the atlas bipod. I typically don't spend much on bipods. For what they are, the cheap ones have always worked just fine. But, been looking at the way the atlas can be deployed at 45 degree angles and that would be handy.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Here are some pics of the second one we did. This one did not hold as well as the first until we made small counter sink in the stock for the sling stud to sit slightly further into. by doing so we effectively move the monopod mounting closer to the stock, altering the angle at witch the erector body of the monopod "exits" the mounting body.

You can see from the pictures that there is a slight bit of hard anodizing left towards the top edge of the stow flat, what we did is increase this cut back and leave the top alone to allow the stowed position to tuck up farther.

This second monopod works really well and tucks up much better to the stock than before we got after it.

I woudn't really advise anyone to do this without careful consideration, I am just an eternal tinker and cant leave well enough alone.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

Muttt, Thanks I appreciate you sharing your experience and have shared same with Kody.

Jeepocabra, that looks like some of my prototype work only way cleaner! One thing leads to another and in my case, I'm soon out of material to remove! LOL! We have plans to do what you suggest only from a different approach.

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

I have one fitted to my 5R milspec and like it. I even like it for having something to hold when my rifle in carried on my shoulder.

One negative when out on the hill, and crawling about, is its another thing that can get caught up when dragging the rifle into position.

On long rifles, or prone oriented heavy rifles they are an asset, on sporting rifles a hinderance.

What kind of sling is that on the AICS. It is awesome!

Re: Accu-Shot Monopod ...... Love Em?? Hate Em??

There is a place for both. If you have time and it suits the rifle stock configuration with bipod then have all the features. However, for one of my rifle less was better, so I went for the shortest and simplest they did. I just say match it to what you have and what you are intending to do with it.
