First off who has an AI rifle up here in Alaska? AE, AW, AWSM or even AICS doesn't matter.

Second are there any places in Alaska that sell AI products?

I'd like the chance to sit behind an AI and atleast get a feel for the ergonomics before I get all excited about buying one. On the stocks I'm specifacally looking for the 2.0 with adjustable cheekpiece, LOP and butt spike as that would be what I would get if I did order AICS and the AWSM I'm looking at. Thank you for any information ahead of time.

Re: Accuracy International in Alaska

If you have the itch and want an AI, go ahead and buy it. If you don't like it, sell it here.

Be warned, if you like it, you will not want to go back to anything else.

Re: Accuracy International in Alaska

That is exactly what I'm hoping for. A rifle to put a stop to my obsession. Might low ball it before hand and order the AICS in the same or close enough configuration for my LTR, that'd be easier to sell than what I would plan on getting.

Re: Accuracy International in Alaska

A stock LTR in an AI chassis system is in no way comparable to an Accuracy International rifle. Simply cycling the bolt on an AI rifle one time will convince you of that.

If you want an Accuracy International, buy one. You'll never need another rifle of that caliber, except maybe for a very lightweight rifle for short-range hunting.

Re: Accuracy International in Alaska

The only reason for the AICS would be ergonomics, making sure I like the way it is and making sure it's perfect. Then the rifle would be an AW in .300WM with a .338LM switch barrel or vice versa.

The LTR isn't stock though, the action has been trued it's sitting in a McMillian A4 with NF base, TPS rings and a Millet (I know but hey it's what it came with). I'm going to need a new tube about this time next year though

ArcticFun,

I like your reasoning, and it makes sense. But as stated above, The AICS is a whole other animal. I've had 2 (one long action folder and one short fixed). I had the same complaint about both: the hole in the trigger guard to allow access to the set screw for installation! The first thing I did was sand it down, but it is still uncomfortable. Barring that, it's not a bad setup.

My advice to you would be to save that money you would spend on the AICS. Sell anything else expendable to you or whatever the AI would replace, and hover like a hawk for a good deal on an AI in the for sale section. There is an AW on gunbroker for $5k and an AE here for $2.5k.

Here is a thread you may find ammusing, my first post on a similar idea as yours:

I have since bought an AI AWP with a 4-16x42. I FUCKING LOVE THIS GUN! And i'm currently playing with the idea of getting another.

Re: Accuracy International in Alaska

Before I make that purchase I need to make room in the safe and get rid of the rifles that either are too nice to hunt with or just sit there collecting dust. Then the unused YFZ450 needs to go and maybe even the YZ450F. I would probably own just the AWSM, AR-15 and my .308 till I could buy an AE MKII later. Oh that and my pistols.

No one has one of these up here in Alaska? I mean c'mon! It's the perfect place for the AW!

If only it was that simple!

The obsession just moves to another level....check out some of the other AI/AW threads....especially ones with RSR's gun porn pics!

It's a better factory rifle than anything else out there, especially when it's 40-below and the snow is blowing into your action.

Alaska Tactical employee has one in 308 with NF and if I remember they are a vendor for AI, I shot a couple times with him and see him around but not for awhile, my old mushy melon can't remember his name at this moment, tall lanky kid, prob will once I quite thinking I will remember. Ask Steve he should remember.

PM me if you want to know what I think.
