I've been wondering for a LONG time so I might as well just ask now.

What is the deal with the big metal space the bolt handle gets to ride in. Is this just in case the lugs fail, so the bolt doesn't go shooting out into someones face?

Ive never had hands on with this chassis but I think that is just to clean up the look of the cut out plastic covers? Not sure of the material either.
Maybe some with more input can chime in.
