Accuracy Question??

I have owned several AR's over the past 30 years. Including several Colt's(and 2 Delta H-Bars). I was never very satisfied with the Colt accuracy. But I will also admit that I was probably not the best shooter either.

My shooting skills have improved alot. And I have bought a couple of Rock River Varminter AR's, and they are very accurate rifles.

I am looking to buy a lighter rifle with the 16" barrel. I had another post and someone recommended a Spike's rifle, and it looks pretty nice to me.

Then I have also seen the Colt Model 6520. For about $995(maybe a tad less). I am also considering this Colt rifle. My main conceern is with the accuracty of the Colt. Has anyone had any direct comparisons between the Colt 6520 and the Spike's rifle in a head to head comparison.

I am not looking for bench rest accuracy. This is not going to be that type of rifle. I am just looking for a fairly light, fast handling sub $1,000 rifle. And Colt is now offering that rifle. I am just curious about the accuracy of the Colt?? Thanks alot, Tom.

Re: Accuracy Question??

Don't know if they still do it, but Colt used to install a "sear block" in their lowers. This will limit your options for installing an aftermarket trigger, so you might want to do a little research if you're still considering a trigger upgrade.

Re: Accuracy Question??

When I ordered my Spikes tactical they had a couple of differnt barrel options, I had them put a Magnesium Phosphate Danile Defense Barrel(? on spelling) on mine. I have not shot mine for anything past 75 yds using Lake City 5.56 or American Eagle it groups pretty good.

Re: Accuracy Question??

Take it for what it is worth. My issued M16a2's never failed to help me score expert hitting head shots out to 500yds in qualifying. My personal 6920 is no slouch. My old 6724 put 30rounds in less than a quarter sized hole at 100yds with match ammo. That rifle also took my first buck and took out a running raccoon @ 200 yards quartering away from me with a Vmax placed right behind the right ear. I never found Colt rifles to be at all inaccurate.

While the 6520 has a thin barrel that will heat up quickly, and has a fixed carrying handle, making it less desirable for optics. I highly doubt it won't perform. The 6520 is nice, because it is simply a light weight carbine to have for any sort of carry.
