My son put together a Tactical 308 with a 1 in 12 twist. I have 1500 Sierra 155 Palma bullets on hand that I am not using in anything I am shooting at the moment. I am planning on loading them for his new gun. I would like to use powder I have on hand due to the problem getting powder at the moment, which eliminates Varget and RL15. I only have 1 pound of each, not enough to mess with. I do have AA2015, and 748 in large enough quantities to use.
Load development round one: Winchester Cases, CCI BR Primers, Sierra 155 MK. My Accurate Loading Manual Number ONE shows a maximum load of 41.5 grains of 2015 with a velocity of 2764 from a 24 Inch barrel.
My chronograph came up with a close average reading of 2742 from his 24 Inch barrel, with 40 fps deviation. Accuracy at 100 yards was not earth shattering. Possibly due to the velocity spread. No pressure signs at all. No cratering, or flattening of primers. This is my first use of CCI BR primers in years, I normally use Federal GMM. I am not sure how CCI BR primers react to pressure. My search of 155 loads shows lots of loads above book level using Varget & RL15 with velocitys way above the 2742 we are getting.
Is anyone using 2015 under a 155? What are your results? Maximum loads, etc. I was wondering if a little more powder might tighten up the spread a little.
I went to the Accurate web site to look for more or different data. I did not find 2015 listed at all for a 150/155 bullet.
With powder being hard to come by, I am just trying to work with what I have on hand.
I loaded 20 with Varget, and 20 with 748 to try this week.

I don't think 2015 is the go to powder with 155s, but we use what we have on hand. On my can, it says:

"an extruded rifle powder specifically for the 6PPC, 7BR and equivelent cartridges. Also suitable in 223 and comparable cartridges."

I use mine in 223 only, never tried it in 308.

I just looked at a powder chart. 2015 is just below 4198 on the chart. That puts it a little fast for 308.
Well I have enough on hand to load 223 for a long time anyway.

I was at my local reloading store a couple days ago. They had 1 Pound of RL15, No Varget, No 748, They did however have several pounds of IMR4064.

I may take a hard look at IMR 4064 with a 155 Sierra and see what that will do. I have some IMR4064 on hand to try.

Contact Accurate, they will give you data. They gave me data for 2015 with a 175 SMK, so a 155 is definitely doable.

IMR 4064 is a good choice, just outside the Big 3 here on this board (IMR 4895, RE-15 and Varget) and should work well.

Re: the 2015BR, it's an accurate powder in 223 if you take the time. Since you have a lot of it and since it doesnt' seem that you're shooting much of the smaller carts, put a FactToFace ad up and see if you can't trade it for something more utilitarian to your needs?

You can get any powder to work in any cartridge if you're careful enough. Heck, guys shoot 240 SMKs out of 308s (or the 223?) using BlueDot (subsonic)for Christ's sake It's just whether, or not, the accuracy is there and whether there aren't better choices for that round.

I have the Accurate Manual #1 which has 308/150 data in it. The website does not show any data for it at this time though. The manual is where the 41.5 grain load came from. Not sure how uping the charge above that will work out with a fast powder. It may go hot all at once. I was hoping for more speed than what I got. Also 40 FPS velocity spread is a little on the high side. Probably not helping accuracy either.
I was hoping to see how the Varget and 748 loads did, however the boy has been busy and has not had a range day to try them so far.
