Accurizing a Savage MK2 BV

I've got a Savage MK2 BV in .22lr that gets about maybe 1.5 MOA. The barrel is more or less free floated. I've been considering trying glass bedding. I've been meaning to research the ease of pillar bedding and I've considered getting better bottom metal. I've also been considering adding a cheek riser (kydex drill through the stock type).

Has anyone tried accurizing MK2's with decent success?

Not enough information provided to offer advice.
Picture of rifle, setup, ammo used
and looking downrange at the target.
CCI SV is not the best choice for precision.
It's cheap practice ammo. Free floated barrel
is not the final rule for accuracy.
Often a barrel support pad will improve results.
Post the pics so we can see what y'er dealing with.

A couple guys that shoot my long-range rimfire matches use MK II and always place really well against a lot of high end guns. They also win their share, one has a $2500 Anschutz and he leaves it at home and uses the Savage.

Their Savages have both had their barrel removed and set back with a new chamber reamed by his Son. A couple other Smith's in the area are also doing the work and these things really shoot. The fella with the high end Anschutz says his Savage groups as well or better than the Anschutz. I think they charge around $150.00 for the work but is well worth it.

I love seeing the older or what some view middle of the road guns put a whooping on the new flavor of the month guns. We're in Eastern Ohio and one of the Smith's is Brian White at Fox Run Precision in New Concord Ohio. A Facebook or Google search should find him.

Ok, I have a plan of action. To answer some previous question, I normally use CCI Standard. I will be testing other ammo sometime this summer.

I've ordered a DIP bottom metal and trigger guard. I plan on buying a boyds pro varmint stock with cheek riser to get better ergonomics on the rifle. I'm just going to wait on a discount though... unless I get impatient. I'm not sure how often they offer discount codes.

Would it be worth glass bedding the stock or just leave it as-is?

I enjoy shooting my MK2 and have moved it to a chassis. The new bottom metal will certainly help. Experimenting with various ammo will as well. They are finicky mistresses. Mine likes the Wolf Match.

I purchased and briefly used the Boyd's but got a chassis for my .223 Savage and wanted a similar setup with the rimfire. I bought the pillars, but never got around to bedding it. If interested, PM me and I'll send it your way cheap.
