I purchased a acog this weekend at a gun show. I bought it from a just another person at the show not a vender. The acog its self in in pretty good shape except that the fiber optic cord is cracked and it could use a other paint job. Now here is the problem. I think that the dude is military. He was young ,had a high and tight, and knew were the head was. He avoided any questions I ask. but for 200 I had a hard time passing up this acog. But I need I want to get the acog repaired but I am afraid if i send it to trijicon that they might keep it saying it is stolen military gear. Is there any way I can get it fixed with out having to send it to trijicon?

Re: ACOG

Most ACOGS have the cracks in the fiber optics anyway, call Trijicon and ask about the serial number. There are fake acogs floating around too, post some pics?

Re: ACOG

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum but not to ACOGS. The fiber optic will get small cracks in it. It’s a direct result of hard (combat) use but it typically does not affect the reliability of the optic. As far as sending it back, I personally know guys who have possessed reallocated DOD ACOGs and they sent them in for a refurb. Nothing was said. They got their optics back crisp, clean, and good to go. That being said, I'm not to be held responsible if Trijicon jacks your sh*t. If it makes you feel any better, you only paid about $100 less than what the gov buys them for.

Did he do or say something that would make you think it was not on the up and up? On the other side of the coin I seriously doubt Trijicon would track "stolen" gear. They might be able to tell you it was sold to the military but that does not mean it is stolen. I have had a couple deployments with units who have some discretionary funds that they use to outfit us but nothing is on the books or signed for. I still have a bunch of that gear but it is by no means stolen. Heck I have 4 or 5 duffels full of stuff I have tried to give back to the Army several times and they simply will NOT take it because it is not on my hand receipt.

Anyway, as far as the scope goes, if the reticle seems lit then there is probably nothing wrong that needs fixing. The tubes crack all the time but still function, its just cosmetic. They also dont get paint jobs from the factory. They are just flat black rubber. The trick is to find something that will take off that paint without hurting the rubber.

I dont think he was implying that just because the guy was military that the optic was stolen, it just so happens that ALOT of optics have been stolen and sold to unaware buyers, who then get tracked down and end up having to relinquish the optic back to the Gov, and accept the loss of the initial investment. I might be suspicious as well, I dont trust anyone who hasn't earned it, regardless of their profession.

Re: ACOG

I know its a fact there are things re-appropriated all the time but you know there are no thieves in the Army today? There was only one thief in the Army way back in the day, since then everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back!

Hopefully everything works out for the original poster.

Re: ACOG

The matter at hand is not about if he stolen them or not. The matter is if I send it to trijicon for repairs will they be able to tell that is possibly stolen military gear and if they do discover that it turns out to be stolen what course of actions will take place? I really dont want a raid on my house by the feds at 2 in the morning.
