Gunsmithing Action screws

I just purchased a used H-S PST-026 from a local shooter for my 700 tac. He did not include any actions screws so I thought the ones holding the action to the hogue stock would work. The rear screw works but the front does not. Does anyone know if H-S sells mounting hardware? If not does anyone know what screw might fit? If all else fails I guess I will go to my local smith.

Go to Brownells. The screws are 1/4-28. I have never had any luck finding them in hardware/big box stores. The finest thread I have ever seen was 14-24.

Order some from msc direct. You will get them in half the time. I buy them 1.5 inches long and grind them until I have full thread engagement. Many factory cut bolts are too short and do not make use of the full thread, ie aics chassis bolts.

Good to know recoil, I'm going to check out a local store who specializes in screw bolts etc an see what they have. If not I will look into the website you specified. After getting home awaiting it looks like I need something around 1.30 - 1.40

Fastenal carries 1/4-28. Just bought a box of 500 recently.

even the tru-value and ace hardware stores in my area have 1/4-28 shcs's. you can buy them individually and not have to buy in quantities of 100 and pay shipping.

Robtan, if you go to the Fastenal website, use the store locator button, you'll find a store close to you, and save shipping that way too.
