Has anyone gotten larger ES numbers due to Neolube N2?
My 6.5 Creedmoor loads "nicer" with some Neolube in the neck area with a neck tension of 2.5-3 thou.

My 6GT loads have an ES of about 10FPS.

Or should I get my neck tension down to 1.5-2 thou?

To answer your first question, I have not.

To answer your second question: If you have a current load, shoot it 10 times. Change 1 variable (Neck Tension) and shoot it 10 times. Then compare the two results.

Yeah… ultimately that’s how I would test too… I live fairly far from the range, components are scarce…
But if I get to the bottom of this I’ll report back!

How many shots are your 10es loads? And what steps are you taking? That’s fairly world class ammo for an extreme spread that small.

Also, if you didn’t change anything else and you’re using a pretty slick lubricant, you likely need to increase your neck interference fit.

Without knowing all the facts, it’s likely the lubricant is allowing the bullet to be unseated inconsistently from the initial primer strike which is affecting your velocity.

Also, what ES as you considering “bad” for your 6.5?

Oh I spend a lot of time with my reloads... Here goes.

    1. Use fired formed Alpha Brass with a 1 node lower than my usual load.
    2. Pop Primer, Dry Corn Tumble, 5h
    3. Aneal with AMP (Code 146)
    4. Bump 2 tho with SAC 6GT Dies on an Area 419 Zero with 2 thou neck tension
    5. Trim with Girauld to 1.7200"
    6. Dry Corn Tumble, 5h
    7. Seat CCI 450, 4thou bellow flush with Primal Right Primer thingy
    8. Charge 33.4 +/- 0.02gr of Varget with Autotrickler V3
    9. Seat 109gr HTLR Bergers at 24thou off the lands with SAC THE Seating Die

Ill get 2950 FPS, ES is usually 8-10 with 10 shot groups.

I was expecting similar results with the 6.5 Creed, but again I know all cartridges are different.
With an ES of 40-50 its harder for me to identify my nodes.

I have some 6GT loaded with the same prescribed steps with the addition of Neolube... Haven't had the chance to try them yet, if my ES gets to 40-50 then Ill know the culprit.

    - What are you measuring your neck interference fit with? I.E. how do you know you have .002 under on your neck diameter?

    - If you’re getting good numbers and results, why would you introduce something into the mix? Do you expect to get better ES than 12?

Also, those are very basic steps for loading ammo. You haven’t even begun to get into the weeds as far as spending time at the loading bench.

If your 6gt has issues as well, and you want to continue with the lube, you’ll likely need to step up to .005” or so interference fit.

I measure the expansion mandrel that I use with my SAC Die and the Bullet OD.

I tried to try, for the sake of science LOL

Oh yeah, I understand that my experience in reloading is still very limited, just try to learn more.

So increase the neck tension by 1/2 a thou, ill try it! I want to get to the bottom of this.
So technically, increasing my 6.5 Creed neck should also potentially make the problem go away right?

I tried loading some 6.5 without the lube, feels pretty rough... And it was also pretty hard to pull the bullets out.

I’d recommend pin gauges for measuring your inside neck diameter. They are cheap and you won’t be guessing at all.

If you’re set on using the neolube, I’d suggest pin gauges:

    .263
    .262
    .261
    .260
    .259

And if you are getting mandrels like 21st century that are in .0005, then also get the .0005 pin gauges between those.

Start at .001 interference fit, and move .001 at a time down to .005 interference and see if your numbers improve. You introduced a lubricant to you neck which decreases friction. So you likely need to make it back up somewhere.

Also, shoot the 6gt with the lube first and see what it does to that. It may or may not be the same with the 6.5, but it’s a start.

    Thank you so much!
Yeah, pin gauge would tell for sure, I am also holding my breath for those new Forster Gauges =)

    I'll report back!
