Hello all. I have been lurking around this forum for several months now reading everything I can about both rifles and optics. I am new to long range shooting but not to shooting itself. Most of my trigger time is behind an M16 and M4. I have purchased a Rem 700P in .308 to get started and am planning on Seekins 20 MOA base and rings. The last thing I need is an optic. My question to everyone here is about optic quality and clarity between an HDMR and 6-24 PST. The PST has more "options" many of which I don't necessarily need and of course I like the price tag when compared to the HDMR. The HDMR has a better reticle and would seem to be a tougher scope.

Does anyone have first hand comparisons between these two scopes with regards to quality and clarity? With the lack of upgrades, is the HDMR worth the extra $400? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks

S/F

Re: Advice on Optic Clarity

I have owned both. The 6-24 PST I owned was night and day better in almost every measurable category of optical performance than either of the 3-21 Bushy's I've owned. There are quite a few people on here with very different experiences with theirs. I'm convinced that Bushnell has either a poor design spec, mfg. process that's out of control or a very loose acceptance spec. Whatever the case, they would appear to be hit or miss with regard to optical quality. Other than that a great scope and for the money I'd buy it over the PST any day. But how much are you willing to gamble on the optics being poor, good or great?

Re: Advice on Optic Clarity

I don't have experience with either but One thing to remember is that bushnells customer service has been falling short lately and vortex has a you manage to break it and we will replace it policy. just food for thought.

Anyone else have any experience with these two scopes? I am leaning more towards the Vortex but really want to like the HDMR. I am also open to any other suggestions in this price range that it FFP. Thanks

Re: Advice on Optic Clarity

I have a HDMR on the way. I put a PST on my fathers rifle, we like it.

I normally alway agree with Jrob on optics, however I have a slight disagreement.

You might be taking a gamble on optical clarity with the HDMR. You also might be taking a gamble on not having shit float around in your PST.

Your choice.
