Advice on scopes prior to pulling the trigger

When I first got my RPRR I tossed a Nikon prostaff on it and was satisfied with it for bench shooting.

Last fall I went to my first .22 PRS style competition. While my skill set was non existent....... my trusty little prostaff just wasn’t going to cut it.

I upgraded to an Athlon Argos. Which was a quantum leap from the prostaff. I’ve used it all this season and it’s a great scope for the money. My two concerns with it are: 1) it’s in MOA and I want to switch to MILS. 2) the top turret requires multiple revolutions to go from near to far and it’s easy to get lost.

So I’ve decided, yet again, to upgrad my scope. Looking at the Vortex Viper PST gen 2.

Over the winter I’m also building a 10/22 to compete in the semi auto class.

Soooooooo I’m planning on purchasing two identical scopes to keep it as simple as possible for myself.

Is there anything I’m overlooking with the Viper? I haven’t read any downsides or real issues.

But given the cost (x2) I want to ensure I’m not missing PRIOR to hitting the buy it now button.

Thank you!

Athlon Ares BTR or Midas Tac. Since you seemed to like your other Athlon. They are great value. I only have a Vortex red dot so I can't comment on their products. But I've heard many good things as well.

Whatever one you go with, I would suggest you make sure it has a zero stop - for this kind shooting where you're dialing up down a zero stop is a must have for me.

BTW I'm using a Cabelas Covenant 7, FFP 5-35x56 , .1 mil/ click Christmas tree reticle and zero stop.

I'll bet the others mentioned are good ones too, but for $400 I like this one. FWIW.

I have a gen2 PST on my NRL22 rifle. I absolutely love it. I agree with the terms stop, it's nice to have. I was using a diamond back tactical before. It's good for what it is, but the PST is awesome.

My choice would be the Midas TAC 6-24×50 APRS3 scope. Best scope I've seen for the money. Message gr8fuldoug who is a supporting vendor of Sniper's Hide and an authorized Athlon dealer. He provides discounts to Sniper's Hide members and I've not seen lower prices on Athlon scopes elsewhere.

I have a Vortex 6x24x50 viper pst mrad. Very happy with it. Single focal plane. I got mine from Eurooptics. Spend the extra $ and get a single focal plane scope. Mine was around $638 out the door with tax and shipping I mounted on a 20moa rail

The only thing I can nitpick about this scope is the lack of locking turrets. Short of that it's a great scope. Parallax goes down to 25yds, zero stop, tactile turrets, mil/mil (love the EBR2-C) good mag range and great glass. YUUGE step up from the gen 1 line. Its what's on top of my 455 trainer and I like it alot. Gets my vote?

The Midas TAC is less expensive than the Ares BTR and has much better turrets. I despise the turrets on my Ares BTR. You do lose the illuminated reticle (not an issue for me) and the Midas TAC has a target dot rather than a crosshair. Some people may not like the target dot, but I strongly prefer it for NRL22.
