I have a new in box rem 700p in 308 26" heavy barrel plan on using a us optics10 power scope ipod badger bolt what else besides practice practice. Is it worth it having the action trued? Who dose this work?

Make sure you are loading it with quality ammo. I would recomend trying the rifle out and seeing how it shoots right now before you start dropping lots of money into it. If its currently shooting better then you can why spend money to make it shoot even better.

A Jewell trigger cut my groups in half.
But I agree, shoot the crap out of it, then spend the money. My Rem 700 shoots the BVAC cheap 150fmj's really well. I count myself fortunate, as it is much cheaper than Federal Match.

Quality ammo, good trigger and call it a day. Put a few thousand rounds through the 308, send it off to get a match barrel and while it's out you can have it trued. It's easy to get caught up in all the gear and parts on here but that setup with a drop chart will go far. Stock is optional and can come later.
Don't underestimate the importance of a good trigger. It's not a sexy upgrade but it's the best one you can make.

Not sure how far you are from Lagrange but russell banks at scout supply company can do the action work for you. He is "SSC" on here. He recently did a custom build for me and I'm very impressed with his work.

I'd agree with almost everything else being posted, with one exception. If you've got an SPS-V (26" HV bbl w/ the synthetic stock) I would get into a real stock, first. Then go with a good trigger (my factory adjustable trigger would never stay put). And, of course, LOTS of trigger time!

The 700P uses an HS stock which is fine to start with. If it was a shitty molded plastic sps stock then it would need to be addressed but a trigger would be the better initial investment.

go timney over jewell, they are good triggers but too sensitive. timneys are a robust bad ass trigger, the flatt shoe ones are really nice. i have three of em.

I just finished installing my 510 last night and wanted so bad to order the flat shoe but I figured it was a lame marketing gimmick. I'll have to keep that in mind for the next one. I was coming from a Shilen but wanted a wider trigger and holy smokes did I get it. My Shilen measures .170" wide and this 510 is a whopping .375". Much more comfortable and I can get a much better purchase with all the real estate.

I would do a jewell or a Timney, Jewell is more money and more adjustable but dont let it get dirty. The timney is a good trigger just not as adjustable and I dont like the wider shoe, but that is personal preference. The shilen is nice for the money, did not like the feel of the rifle basixs but it worked well when it was in.
