Better known as the MUM-14, it's a well known and respected monocular. There are some different models around and I don't know this one specifically however in general the MUM is a good monocular.

What makes a good night vision great however is the tube. If the monocular comes with a poor tube, it will perform badly. If it comes with a good one, it will perform well. If you can get details of the tube, it will give you an idea of how well it will perform.

However, it is almost certainly Gen3, should have a reasonable tube and I expect you will probably be very happy with it

They are also waterproof with the dive windows correctly fitted. It is not a military unit per-se, but does has a long history of use with different militaries and police departments around the world.

I have a MUM-14 and like it very much. It's strengths are a good, simple on/off switch and rugged constructio. It's weakness is that it doesn't fit easily to any of the 3x afocal lenses like the AN/PVS-14 does.

This is what it looks like:

I have a comparative review of the MUM-14 vs the GT-14 here if you want to read it. (review - MUM vs GT14 )

Re: AEO Multi Use Mini Monocular

I have a similkar one, although about five years old-purchased from Moro NV. The vision is still great and clear. Due to the tapered end it does not work with some of the mounts for weapons mounted. The mount that came with it works but in my opinion is less than the quality should be as it is not tight.

I use the Moro helmet mounted and it is good there. I have a PVS_14 and use it weapons mounted. It works well.

+1 on the above poster.

Re: AEO Multi Use Mini Monocular

Thanks for the help but I'm a little confused. Is the MUM 14 the same as what they are calling the MUM 2 on SWFA?

Re: AEO Multi Use Mini Monocular

AEO stands for Aero Optics. They are an outfit out of Fort Worth Texas and what they do is this. They take failed L3 tubes and they sort through them and test them to find usable Tube Cores that they then re-manufacturer back into a working tube with a new power supply.

The big question with these tubes is what spec they are. I believe that AEO sends a data sheet with these tubes but I don't know what test equipment they posses to test these modules before potting to get the tubes specs.

I don't sell these tubes as the cost saving to me over a brand new tube is not worth it. My advice is to save your pennies and get a brand new Unit. The MUM Housuing is available from several sources with brand new ITT or L3 tubes.

Are you looking for a recommendation for a dealer selling the Insight MUM or a recommendation on tube Selection?
