Thoughts on the KRG Bravo chassis for a Tikka T3x CTR? Would you get the one compatible with AICS or with CTR mags?

If compatible with AICS mags, can you give me some pointers on any specifics (if any) as to which AICS mags would work with the KRG Bravo chassis?

Also, seems to be some debate on whether the AICS version will accept polymer (magpul) mags?

Any others you'd recommend? This is for a fun long range target shooting and hunting rifle (6.5 creedmoor).

I went with the KRG. I love it. I use the AICS variant. Ordered two MDT steel mags for it. The magpul mags won't fit the Tikka receiver.

I use mine for general shooting fun and hunting.

Having used both on a Tikka, I prefer the CTR mags.

Both have their pros/cons.

FYI: use the search tool on this forum, because this same question has been asked before in recent times. Search "Tikka AICS CTR" and it'll return like 3-5 threads with lots of info in them.

Mcree Precision has a deal right now on their G10 Chassis for Tikka CTR. It is discounted to $640 and there is as of today still a 10 percent discount. I just ordered one in Armor Black for a holiday gift for a friend. They are a little busy though. I called the other day and some totally hot sounding chick whom I have been told is totally hot by someone who visited for a pre-contract introduction to the company who said she is in fact totally hot who answered the phone on my first try and when I had another question and tried calling back the error message on my phone said "Line Busy" all circuits taken or something though when I telephoned a week before twice the owner himself answered.

I think their Black Friday Sale is keeping them busier than normal. That's a pretty good deal for a total of almost $800 (Original Price)-$591 (Sale Price) divided by $800 multiplied by 100 to get the percentage discount and it really adds up. There is a total 26% discount, for a chassis used by a number of agencies and functional tactical groups and is it solid and totally feature rich.

The chassis uses CTR mags. They have four configs for Tikkas. Here is the page for the G10 for Tikka CTR which used CTR mags https://shop.mcreesprecision.net/G10-Rifle-Stock-Tikka-T3-T3X-CTR-G10-STD-TIK-T3-T3X-CTR.htm

I think it is an ideal chassis and the weight is good for my friend's application which is a 20" 308, which when we shot it in the factory plastistock it is kind of snappy and flips up a bit if you don't hug it a little upon ignition. So he put some muzzle device from APA on it and that tamed it down quite a bit, since it comes threaded already. The plastistock that comes with a CTR can't weigh more than 2lbs, so it is on the light side, which is the original intention and great for humping it during a hiking excursion but it doesn't have all that many features.

And it is a folding chassis with a built in anti-cant level. All for $591, metal chassis, totally adjustable and with an incredible list of features.

You don't hear about them all that much because they are busy filling contracts and not marketing to the civilian or competitive shooter all the time like a lot of other manufacturers. And a similar version of the chassis came out with the rifle from Tikka as a standard feature set and that chassis has since been upgraded to the current one.

Made here in US!

I'll get a pic when it arrives and put it up here so we can examine it.

Accurate mags work great. (Also the Ruger scour rifle mag is made by accurate and can be a few bucks cheaper.)

I have heard of people modifying the plastic mags to work with tikka. Never tried it. This is really not a “chassis” issue but a tikka one

That's a good point about the origin of what is really a compatibility issue in a popular configuration but some companies don't see it as enough of a potential demand to make a chassis for the CTR and its mags.

May sound like a dumb question, but I'll show my ignorance....

I am picking up another Tikka T3x. Not the CTR nor the Lite; it's the gray laminate stock version. I know the KRG Bravo shows to be made for the standard T3x as well using AICS mags, but could you drop it into the model made for CTR and us CTR mags. Wasn't sure if the CTR version Bravo had the bottom metal to do accommodate doing that or not?

Also, I like the McRee chassis. Is is made solely for the CTR or same question for it as above (dropping T3x standard version in to it).

The Mcree chassis is a lot more expensive, but seems from my past research and reading that they are a great chassis system and like what I saw on the link.

If you want to use CTR mags, I think the McRee chassis is a no brainer for that price. Bravo is great for the money but it still feels like (and is) plastic.

Well, I believe that's the route I want to go based upon my research. But my question is if the G10 McRee chassis for Tikka T3/T3x CTR will accept a standard Tikka T3x barreled action and allow the use of CTR mags. If not, that's fine, but would like to know.

Answer is yes.

I got the bravo chassis for my ctr in 308. I did some research and ended up sticking with the tikka mags. I’m happy with this choice. It’s been super easy and reliable.

So either chassis will work but the question is which one to go with???
  • Is the McRee worth the extra $300?
  • Just a thought that came to mind. Though it may be a small detail or me being picky, but does the McRee have a cold, metallic feel to it? May be fine for target shooting but hunting in the cold may be a different story. And yes, I know that's what they make gloves for...ha ha ha.
  • The KRG does seem to get good feedback and has a lit of options and is considerably cheaper.
Opinions on which option you'd choose? If they were closer in price, would it sway your decision?

The McRee looks nice. I think you can boil it down to metal vs polymer. If you require metal, there's your answer.

I've owned a few XLR and MDT chassis for my Savages. Moved onto a KRG Bravo for my CTR, for a range toy. The Bravro has been my favorite to date. I don't think I'd hunt with any of them tho. Can pick up a cheaper hunting rifle instead?
