Aftermarket AI trigger

There was a little talk couple months ago about aftermarket AI triggers. I recall Huber mentioning they were in the works with one, and I believe another manufacturer had pitched in as well. Anyone recall who the other manufacturer was?
Anyone know of any progress in this?

Agree and disagree with you. It’s not “designed” to be a comp gun either but happens to be a great one. It can be whatever you decide to use it for and the addition of a 1# trigger option would be welcomed by a large percentage of AI owners. My biggest issue with my AI’s is the trigger for how I like to use it, in PRS matches. I’m sure there are a lot of successful shooters in lots of disciplines with the factory trigger, you watch how fast the single stage triggers sell out. My prediction is they will sell out after the first release in a matter of minutes, even if they are 3-500 a piece. I’ll be buying two for sure.

On the OPs subject, rumor has it from a few team shooters that a single stage is coming out this year, this second hand regurg from my retailer, so it’s internet intel. It’s worth what you pay for it.

Own an AI rifle so I’m speaking from some experience. It’s not bad but I would go a little lower if I was able.

Comes down to simply this.... Personal preference.

I would like to see a comp trigger for the AI since I use my AX for PRS. The factory trigger has its place for sure but being AI has quite a presence in PRS, seems to make sense to have a different offering. Options are a good thing.

While you looked at it as a system, I looked at it because

1.) I like to be able to switch calibers in 2 minutes at the range without special tools
2.) I like the adjustability of the AX platform, especially with my Arca rails, plural
3.) I like the balance with both a CF barrel in 6mm and a MTU in 6.5, uses for different tasks....
4.) I like using 1 optic for multiple barrels
5.) I like the sexy look of an AI
6.) I have a small dick so I compensate by buying the best of everything, from cars, to guns, to houses, my size 2 wife’s giant tits
7.) I like the smoothness of the action
8.) I like all the accessories I can slap on it

While I have an entire wall of custom guns and two closets full of shooting accessories and shit I barely use, I love my AI’s the most and I’m chomping at the bit for a single stage.

People have different needs and wants. While my Viper may be perfect for someone 5’5” its ridiculously uncomfortable for my 6’2” 215lb ass. Why do I have it, my list for my car is similar to the above list, see #6....

Because I can still shoot great with it, it’s just not my preference. It’s not a monumental issue but I’ll gladly remove my only complaint for a couple bills.

So because an AI has a traditionally heavier two stage trigger, you shouldn’t own the rifle itself? So if you prefer a heavier two stage, you shouldn’t build a custom, just buy an AI?

Preference is preference. Who cares really? Run what you like in the rifle you prefer. Unfortunately options don’t exist yet for an AI and I’m sure would be welcomed by many.

I totally get that if I were looking for just 1 rifle to shoot PRS, Benchrest, etc..... When I picked up my first AXMC I already had a stable of custom built, specific purpose builds. After I got an AI I fell in love with the platform. To me the trigger is like tits, I like em just fine as a B (2 stage AI) but love them at a D (trigger tech Diamond) give the opportunity, I’d change things up. 100% of the time. I’m sure my wife feels the way about #6 or #6 &7/8 if you get me ha.

There’s a lot of reasons to buy an AI as mentioned above. Just because one thing doesn’t do exactly what I want isn’t a reason not to purchase it. If that was the case you would never buy a new car, house etc. because I doubt those are 100% to your liking and you wouldn’t change one thing if you could

Diz at Huber Triggers contacted me, said they are just finishing up the Tikka trigger, and the AI is coming a bit after that. So they are definitely still headed that way.

BTW I agree with 918v - the AI triggers are great the way they are. I just prefer a little lighter for match rifle. Nothing that can't be overcome with practice - I shot with a Canadian guy (Rodney Maze) at Jake vibbert's Washington match that cleaned stage after stage with stock AI. He would have been top 10 if he had not had some issues with splitting cases repeatedly.

That's not even remotely a valid comparison. The AI trigger is a known quantity to any potential buyer if they did even the most basic amount of research.

It is a 2-stage trigger meant for combat and there aren't replacements for it. If you want a single stage trigger with a 1.5lb pull weight then you shouldn't buy an AI.

I’ve said this before, personal preference is just that. You prefer the stock heavy 2-stage? Awesome. Someone else doesn’t? Who cares.

just personal preferences...lots of people love jewels and the TT diamonds...ive had both and sold them after about a month, and went back to 2 stages cause thats what i prefer

I don’t think anyone is complaining here. We all bought an AI knowing what it was and speaking for myself, have adapted to the trigger as it came from the factory. But...
if options became available, I’d welcome it since a lighter trigger would be welcomed for PRS matches that I shoot with my AX.

I know there is some secret sauce out there for getting the trigger into the lighter range. It may not get you into Jewell or TT diamond range but I know it is under the 3lb range that they say is the minimum.

I bought a AWSM awhile ago (2nd hand) and the guy adjusted the first stage out of it. I would have never trusted it and fixed it as soon as I had my hands on it but he did it somehow.

On one note, if you put your dick beaters on a two stage trigger and pull the take up, you only have a single stage to break. Interesting concept, huh? I seriously don't get people who are completely opposed to a two stages, if you can't shoot well with a two stage the problem isn't the trigger.

The people who struggle with a two stage are the people who stab/jerk/yank on triggers, in my experience. Proper trigger control would allow you to adapt and use either style to good effect.

But yay for variety, I suppose. I won't be spending anything extra on my AI's trigger, as it works just fine like it is.

They are adjustable (though I'm not sure how), and they can feel really good. I have a shooting friend that has a PSR that had the trigger adjusted by a well known precision rifle training instructor who has an affinity for AI rifles, and it feels damn good.

I have another shooting buddy across the pond that has an AI with the stock trigger, and it's atrocious. Hell, he is getting a custom rifle from the US (at a premium and high importation cost) because he's a bit fed up with his AI rifle.

One of the Team AI shooters knows how to do it. I originally heard it was a special factory trigger but It just must be the regular trigger with the right screws turned. At the factory setting I found it a little heavy but the 2nd stage was was very clear and crisp. As many have said above, with practice it will not hold you back.

An AIMPA would have been perfect to me but I am not brave enough unfortunately.

I saw all of it on IG - IMO that would be a great set up. I had sold mine and went another direction. If AI sells barreled actions one day...

You're right that's exactly where I was going with my trigger comparison

Is it really that hard to decipher that what I was saying was people shouldn't expect a military based rifle to have an ultra light and ultra adjustable single stage trigger? I didn't think it would be but I guess I was wrong.

ETA: If there are more options for the AI in the future that's great but I just wouldn't buy an AI expecting it to happen.

It took all of the courage I had to replace the spigot adapter with samb300's picatinny mount what with punches being involved and all.

I doubt I could ever bring myself to remove the barreled action from the chassis much less take the chassis to a milling machine like you did to make a built-in barricade stop
