I bought a brick of this stuff, and my mark 2 and ruger 10-22 hates it. My mark to which is has a pac lite upper on it jams every round. I checked a spent case and around the rim it was bulged all the way around. It feeds everything else. Never had a problem with it. My 10-22 shoots .5 inch at 75 yards with remington sub sonic. With this stuff it was around 2.5 inches

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

I used the "Sniper" ones and they are extremely accurate. Next time only buy 50 at a time as each .22 seems to like to shoot everything differently.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

it depends on your setup.

the 60 gr usually needs a different barrel twist than most rimfires come with to stabilize the longer heavier bullet.

plus in a semi, there's not enough recoil to cycle the bolt for the next round.

no explanation for the buldge other than the longer bullet is preventing the casing to seat properly in the chamber (OAL).

alot of the CCI cb longs, rem. CBEE, and other specialty quiet ammos will have the same problem - not cycling / not enough "blowback"

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

I have had two squibs with this brand. (not the sub sonic) I had to tap out both bullets with a cleaning rod. (one was a six inch revolver)

Maybe a bad lot...but disposed of the rest. (both guns have never had any issues before)

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

If you are shooting the 60 grains rounds then you need a faster rifling. I shoot their 40gr SS rounds better than the Wolf Match. Like all rimfire stuff... try multiple rounds before you buy a large quantity.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

I think he is talking about ( Aguila super SE subsonic ) ? 38grn. ? . or maybe super SE 40 grn . ?
or maybe ( Aguila Super Colibri )Subsonic 20g. bullet is solely propelled by the powerful Eley priming mix. ???
Can't be the Aguila .22 Subsonic. 60 GR because that's called ( SSS SNIPER ) Super Subsonic Sniper
.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

only 25 yrd. but the ( Aguila Super SE subsonic 38 grn.) did 4 consecutive groups in a row under 1/4 inch . out my 10/22
Something must be wrong with your .22 ???

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

the SSS 60 gr suck they keyhole in all my pistols, the other subsonic, the 38 and 40 gr are great, I run the 40 gr in pistols and 38 gr in carbines, very quiet with a can.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

I've had really good luck with them in my 10/22. The 40 grain subsonic target ammo is about 1/2 the price of Wolf. Wolf outshoots it in my CZ 452 though.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

I never had any luck with the 60gr SSS ammo , tried it in a lot of 22s and not one would shoot it , in each case it tumbled/keyholed , no go if using a can .

In short its crap ammo to me .

At the same price as this I brought what I consider the best subsonic amm , ever made , Lapua Scoremax , its match accurate in any normal rimfire rifle ( ie it dosnt need a fast twist barrel of 1-9 like the SSS 60gr ) , Scoremax was quite heavy at 48gr & high subsonic speed of 315 m/s .

The SSS 60gr ammo had a low subsonic speed .

Only bad thing is Lapua stopped making the scoremax ammo , a great shame , as it was quite simply the BEST ever subsonic .22LR ammo ever made as far as I am concerned .

Later Chris

P.S. I do like Aguila's std 38gr subsonic ammo .

Inside 50 yds, I'll take 5 shots rapid w/ low recoil of 60 grs. on a unsuspecting target !! Think Outside the Box !!

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

If I was getting 1/2" at 75yards with inexpensive ammo I would not even spend my money buying anything else. I would buy a truckload of it and be done.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

I'll chime in here...
The 60g Aguila needs a 1:9 twist, and there are aftermarket barrels for the 10/22 in that twist (hint....a 223/556 AR with a 22 conversion kit is USSUALLY the same twist {1:9}). The 10/22 will cycle fine when clean...about 50 rounds...with the 60g Aguila’s. The 22lr conversion in an AR just keeps a cycling (and yes the 22 lead "could" plug up the gas port, but it has never happened to me).

I have killed many a raccoon with the 60g Aguilas, and in each case, the bullet fired was a complete pass through. As an added bonus, the 60g Aguila's are Hollywood quiet through a suppressor

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

Yup...SSS needs a fast twist barrel. It's shooting well under MOA with the 1:9 barrel, is quiet suppressed...and hits very hard.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

i just shot some 60gr with my cz455 for the first time this afternoon. i was rather underwhelmed. sounds as though i need to find some of the 40gr.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

The SSS needs a faster twist barrel for proper stabilization than the standard .22 barrels offer. That being said, I had Mark White (formerly Sound Tech) tap the barrels with two ports just past the threading on a 22/45, 10/22 and Kimber SVT. They vent the gas into a Millenium suppressor before the bullet leaves the barrel and all three platforms now stabilize this round. On a side note, I noticed that I started having feeding issues on the 22/45 and 10/22 after Aguila changed their packaging from the red and black boxes several years ago to the current blue and black boxes. It took me awhile to figure out that the rounds were hanging up in my magazines. I replaced springs and tore apart the mags for cleaning but to no avail. After running some of the older ammo again with no problems I started looking at the ammo itself. I can't confirm officially that there was a change at the factory but I did notice that when the newer ammo was wiped heavily with a rag that there was a waxy residue that came off of it. After wiping it down the newer ammo functioned flawlessly just like the original always has. It appears that the waxy substance was causing drag in the magazines and not allowing the bullets to cycle up fast enough for the bolt cycle. Its a pita to wipe every bullet but worth it to me. BTW, someone made the comment regarding that there is no difference between the 60gr SSS round and a 40gr round......how about 50% more energy on the target. Anyways, those are my observations. Your mileage may vary but I'll be sticking with the SSS for anything other than plinking. 5872

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

+1 on a faster twist for the 60 gr Aguila. I built a 10/22 with a 1 in 9 for it and made a custom charging handle with three
different weight screw on bolt handles. Neither worked great on cycling. Built a 77/22 with a Volquartsen 1in 9 twist barrel
and it performs great. With the double extractors on the 77/22 it feeds and ejects flawlessly. Very accurate in that barrel.
Hits very hard. Wringing the steel plates out to 100 you can really tell the difference. Quiet with my SAS 22 can.

I wouldn't waste my time with that ammo in a 1/16 barrel. Not trying to shoot it through a can anyways. Turbulence as it goes through the baffles will cause it to yaw just about every time
unless the barrel is ported as someone said in above post.

With a 1 in 9 bolt gun, it just shoots great. In anything else,
or 22 with a 1 in 16 barrel, I like the CCI standards.

Re: aguila Super sub sonic sucks

( a few years back ) I had a case of bricks with bunch of over-spray bullet wax-lube on the brass . That kind of pissed me off also with the gumming up of the chamber on feeding in the 10/22 .
but. The last Case of bricks I bought most resent were all GTG with the brass pretty clean . So I guess they must of had some complaints & bettered there QC .
