Rifle Scopes AI AWM ring height recs for a 50mm obj?

I have a Leupold Mark IV with a 50mm objective, that I am mounting on my AI AWM (that has the factory picatinny rail). I'd like to mount the bell as close to the barrel as possible - what ring height is recommended?

Hey John,

Be careful mounting the scope too low, you may not be able to get a good cheekweld if it is too low. I normally recommend Badger Medium-High's if you are not going to use a factory AI mount and that is what seems to work the best from my experience.

Excellent - thank you for the advise. I'll take a look into the Badger Medium-Highs. You know, I've been away from precision shooting for awhile - so I completely forgot about the scope height / cheekweld relationship.

Adam- Sorry about the Hijack, but what is the barrel length and contour on that AE? Is that what I would end up with if I cut a factory AW 26" down to 20"? Thanks.

John, fwiw, I've ended up using the AI one piece mount that goes on the factory pic rail on my AIAW's (2ea). Its the one shown in the pics. Not only will it give you the correct scope hight but you can get one with a forward moa cant so you can use more of the available elevation travel in your scope.

Thanks for the advise - much appreciated. I'd like to go with the factory AI mount, but I am considering mounting a Barrett BORS system as well - so I believe I need to use the Barrett rings with this.

I'll let everyone know how it works out and post some pics in a couple of weeks (OCONUS right now, but will be CONUS shortly).

It is the factory 20" setup with the factory muzzlebrake. The 26" setup is more of a palma type contour so it would look a lot smaller than the bull barrels that come on the 20 and 24" models...
