I have finally decided that i want the 7wsm but in a long action for several reasons including being able to use the heavies and seating them as long as possible without worrying about mag length issues and proper feeding. I would like to use an AICS and wanted to know would this go in a 300wm or 338 lapua chasis? Or either chassis/magazine would work?

You want the 338LM magazines as the WSM cases are much closer to the LM case body diameter and require little if any tuning to feed properly.
The 300WM mags tend to require opening up of the feed lips for proper presentation to the bolt head.
Beyond that I'm not familiar enough with the actual AICS to know if there's a difference between the chassis structures.

I had read that i need 338 mags but was confused when on AI's site the 300wm and 338 chassis have different part numbers. I didnt know if the only difference was the magazine they came with or is there a difference in the chasis itself? Here are the part numbers for the AX folding black left one is 300wm and right one is 338 lapua.

In the older AICS chassis it used to be the same, just different mags. Now that there is a CIP length magazine for the 338l I'm not sure how they are doing it.

I appreciate the information! did he mention if he had added an extended length short action mag box? Wondering if that would help the issue or if he had one and it was still an issue? Only reason I ask is I have a short action already I was planning on building 7WSM on...

FYI if you mill out the flutes in win mag mags 7wsms will fit. Which will allow you to use long action 10 rounders.

Just an idea after reading about your requirements - In order to give you the most flexibility and options - Would you consider one of our CADEX Strike DUAL 33 chassis for your build?
If you ever wanted to change out the rifle / action at a later time, you could change out the bottom mag well insert for compatability with a new action / new magazine. This way would allow you to later upgrade or change out the rifle / caliber with the ability to re-use the chassis on another action / system of a larger caliber. The CADEX Strike DUAL 33 is built for the long action.

I would def consider yiur chassis and have researched it. My only issue is that I am pretty set on using a Surgeon 1086 action. Would if work with this chassis?

I did open the mags up so I had a little more room for seating depth and they fed flawlessly without the mags packed tight. It's when I packed them tight that I had the issue on the first round. Over all my scoop is this. As good as these guys are that you are competing against there is no room for silly little mistakes. Anything that I don't consider 100% is a zero in my eyes. I've run the LA versions for years and loved them. I just didn't love the short version the same. I loved the idea of the extra capacity but I would and will give that up in a heart beat for 100% function at all times. Anyone that says they have never had a single issue feeding a WSM out of a short action at speed probably isn't remembering things clearly. It doesn't happen all the time but the one time it does will be at the precise time that you wish it didn't. That's just Murphy's deal. There are way more SA's out there being used than LA's. It's just a personal preference and I won't do it again. That being said I've built plenty that people love and I've never had a complaint except for my own.

Chris, the Surgeon 1086 has a Rem 700 footprint, but it also has an integral 20 MOA picatinny scope rail. Wouldn't that pose an interference issue for the chassis scope rail (it looks like it does from your brochure above)? Also, is there a cutout for the surgeon's side bolt release on the chassis?
