Gunsmithing AICS and Jewell Trigger????

It is my undertanding that the jewell safety will not work with the AICS.....it has been recomended to me that I file into the stock to give it more clearance.

Is there another way to do this....maybe even removing the safety lever?? I have the luxury of not needing to keep a round chambered so I never use the safety....only chambering when ready to fire so removing the safety wouldn't be an issue and I would rather not cut into the stock itself

The newer stocks are cut out more to accept the Jewell, when the stock arrives if you want to come up and test fit it you can!

i did one in an older AICS by filing the cross pins in the trigger narrower. leave enough to keep shit together, but there is a lot of extra length on those pins, and that is what causes the problem.


but it looks like i won't have to do that on my next AICS.

I just took delivery of an AICS S/A 2.0 and I had to mill (.070 on the right side, .040 on the left) the stock for the Jewell trigger to fit, altough I could have gotten a new older model stock.....

Thanks for the info. I'm certain that a 1.5 S/A that I'll be receiving on Tuesday is new, so I'll post my findings here as well when it arrives.

I'd be willing to bet that milling is still required... I haven't found a single post where anyone has been able to just drop in their Jewell trigger into an AICS without modification.

Looks good... I have a friend who has a mill, but I've never used one before, so I'm a little worried about using my AICS for my first milling attempt.

I had found this pic posted by HateCA earlier, he went about it slightly different, (didn't go all the way through the bottom).

That's probably a better way to do it than the way I did. I only reason I say that is because "people" have said that Jewell triggers can be a problem if they get dirty and keeping the bottom of the AICS closed-off will help keep the dirt out. Personally I haven't (touch wood) had any issues with the three Jewells I run and I keep a can of brake cleaner handy just in case.

Oh and btw.. my method leaves the material at the top where the action rides.. seemed "better" to me..

Either way will work..

I decided to send Stacey @ AI an email so we could get a definitive answer from the people who know best.

I received a reply this afternoon, reading:

AI has discussed this update, we are working on it but it has not taken effect at this time. I am sorry for any inconvenience which this may have caused and I will be updating as soon as I have some further dates."</span></span>

So there you have it... modification is still required on all AICS models fore use with a Jewell trigger.

Yep, I have a pretty new AICS stock as well, it had to be milled to accept the jewell trigger. There is plenty of aluminum there and just about any qualified machinist should be able to knock a job like this out in a few minutes.

Sorry to dig up the dead but I can't find any updated info on this issue. Does anyone know if AI has modified the Classic AICS's to accept the jewel triggers?

I'm hoping so since this was 2 years ago that it was being discussed.

FIX IS EASY!!! NO MILLING NECESSARY.

I have a newer style AICS stock and a "Jewell with Top safety" will not just drop in smoothly. The trigger will work but the safety will bind when you try to put it on safe... no big deal and FIX IS EASY!

BTW: Jewell's with no-safety, or bottom-safety will work just fine with no mods.

As for the fix. With Jewell on the action, and action in the stock, move the safety back and forth and you will notice it binding. Remove action and Just look where the safety "scratch" down on the aluminum block, and proceed to take a dremel with stone (cone head preferred), and grind down until the safety can safely move back and forth without any binding or scratching. It may not look as pretty as milling, but who the hell cares? It's in a spot that is not visible.

I have shot many triggers before, and nothing beats the Jewell! It breaks the cleanest of all the triggers I have ever tried. Side by side with my well tuned Gissele HS Match on my SASS is close but Jewell still wins. I have my Jewell set to 8oz and no problems whatsoever.

I ran into this problem but with a KRG Whiskey 3 chassis. I just filed some of the pins holding the safety on. Finished it up with some 600-2000 grit sandpaper to polish it up. Trigger drops in fine and has no binding issues.

The pro way to do it is to use a mill. But I agree, I can't believe an international precision rifle company expects people to use factory recoil lugs and OEM triggers only. It's not like inletting for aftermarket triggers would ruin the standard trigger fit either.

Well I ended up having to take a dermel to my brand new AICS 2.0 to fit my Jewel on my 5R. I also had to shave the pins a little bit. I figure once I find someone with a mil ill be able to clean up the mess that the dermel left. Sure wish AI would fix this problem. Both for the aftermarket triggers and the larger recoil lugs.

AX AICS also needs to be modified

Hi all,

just an update for the AX AICS chassis:

I just got an AX AICS stock and a Remington 700 SPS Tactical plus a Jewell Trigger with "top safety". I will also need to modify the stock, the safety does not work since it is pressed to the stock and can't move. I also might need to take away a little bit on the other side since the bolt stop release is scratching on that side. But maybe this goes away once the trigger fits properly into the Stock.

Just installed my jewel trigger.didn't wanna take the dremel to the chassis so I just grinded down the pins in the trigger.safety works perfect now
