What are some of the favorite aics bottom metals. Going to use it in the new manners stock for a short action hunting rifle build. Curious what brands are best suggested.

If it's a Manners, then the Gen 2 Mini chassis with barricade block.

Edit, if you have the stock already, what's it inletted for?

I like Badger DBMs. $My 0.02

I do not have the stock already. Going with there new mcs-lrh will not need barricade stop as this rifle is a straight hunter. Also should have noted I’d like to keep the weight as low as possible.

Second the Hawkins hunting BM. I am running the regular Hawkins on my LRH but its more of a NRL hunter rig than actual hunting.

With the Hunter BM you can run flush fit mags, which is nice.

I have two manners with bm now. Both are cdi and I love them but unfortunately the owner passed away a few years back. Now I have to find a new brand to use. Both that Hawkins and surgeon look nice. As well as that Altus mag

The mini chassis is .62 pounds or about 9.6 ounces so not overly heavy but allows you to bolt in and go with no bedding and a DBM. The Badger DBM is about 4.2 ounces but then add on weight of aluminum pillars and bedding you add a few more ounces and now you are within a few ounces. The versatility of the mini chassis will make it a better option.

The New LRH is offered in a mini bedding block like foundations and TS customs. You just install M5 bottom metal of your choice and go to town without bedding. Its also offered as traditional inleting which will require bedding.

On the mini chassis does it improve if you still bed the action even though you don’t have to do the pillars? I see it’s not necessary just curious if it’s better when done.

It's not. I have moved barreled actions from bedded stocks to the mini chassis and they shot the same. What action you using?

Starting to think the lrh with the mini chassis would be the easiest on my end and seems legit.

It definitely would be. Any Manners I order now I get the mini chassis. Drop the action in and go.

Just so you know I had a Surgeon built back around 2012 if I remember correctly by Crescent Customs and Moon skim bedded the mini chassis and bedded around the lug area. I have since taken that barreled action out of that stock at times and moved it to a standard mini chassis and shoot just as good.

manners m5 mini chassis and hawkins m5 of your choice dbm or oberndorf would be the easy button

that's where the new LRH really shines IMHO. seeing how the m5 mini chassis was made just for it

Mini chassis would be my choice but the Hawkins flush-fit is the tits if you decide to go that route.
You can do both.

Again, The Manners LRH has a new version of the Mini-chassis similar to Foundations or TS customs bedding block. You still have to buy bottom metal of your choice but there is no need to install pillars or bed the action.

It really is the best of the both worlds. Lets you run the BM of your choice and functions the same as the traditional Mini-Chassis as far as bedding is concerned. It lets true hunters run hunter BM and people doing NRL hunter and other games run a traditional BM that is easier to install and remove a mag on the clock.

It's a good option if you have bottom metal already or want to use a certain bottom metal but if there is no need the standard mini chassis will do both jobs and is one piece. Simplicity at it's best.

switching between normal M5 dbm for nrl hunter matches or certain hunts and then using a flush mag or oberndorf for other hunts

Yeah there are reasons for it for sure as Manners wouldn't have made it if they didn't get plenty of feedback requesting the option. Bottom line is getting a Manners is a good idea. LOL ;)

I have heard that the LRH is manners most in demand and ordered Stock.

Make since its built off the TCS Mold and is much easier for them and the customer due to not having any inletting issues with the various custom actions due thanks to the low boreline.

Only thing I would change on it is I would like the arca rail to be the entire fore end instead of the 3” piece in front of magwell. When I do order I’m going to put a 419 arca lock rail on there that’s about the correct length.

Just ask them to put a longer one on when ordering. Manners is pretty good to work with. And even if they can't it's an easy add. A 12" should go to the end of the forend. A 14" will have a little hangover. That's a 12" below on a Manners PRS2 stock.

Now I'm no expert on stocks and bottom metal so i have no idea if there is any sort of conflict between KMW bottom metal and a Manners mini-chassis stock, but a friend does have a beautiful 6.5 CM whipped up by Joe Walls who used the KMW metal in a McMillan stock. And its just slick as owl shit and a beautiful example of metal manufacturing.

That and it is my personal opinion that Mr. Cross is one hell of a knowledgeable and stand up gentleman.

OP, I've sent you a PM.

My LRH order was placed 5 days ago. I have the flush fit Hawkins bottom metal and magazine already here.
Mile High and Unknown Munitions were a few that had the hardware in stock. I went with the High Plains Camo. The image is from Altus.
