Gunsmithing AICS doesn't fit PSS

I just received my new AICS short action for my Rem 700 PSS in .308. Followed the directions and attempted to seat the barreled action into the stock with the skins on, and the skins seem to be too tight around the chassis to allow the receiver and the first couple of inches of barrel to seat properly.

I've searched all over and can't find any word on this issue. So, I'm guessing I screwed something up. Anyone have any experience with this?

have you tried taking the skins off and seat the barreled action first then put skins back on? Just to see what is happening? Not trying to be a smart a$$, just trying to help.

Also if you have had an aftermarket thicker recoil lug put on, the AICS lug recess is not meant for that and may prevent full seating. You would have to enlarge the recess.

I put my Rem LTR into an AICS a couple months back. It was very snug and I had to press the action into the stock to "get past" the resistance that was likely caused by the skins. It did not take much force at all, but it just didn't drop in on its own. However, once past that resistance, it seated fine. My $.02

Remove the skins and you'll be good to go.

That's what I ended up doing. I just had never heard that it was so tight around the action. I also marked where it was separating from the chassis itself, and then slowly and lightly shaved those tops off of the skins. It fits like a glove, now. Weird.

yeah it can be hard to hold polymer to a rigid shape and exact clearance like the aluminum chassis, so best to just modify the skins like you did. Glad it worked.

Hahah. Good one. Nope, not selling it now that it's all together and functional.

Although, those J. Allen stocks look mighty nice... ;o)

What is it about the AI that you guys don't like that you think he'll sell it? I'm in the market for a new stock and the AI was on the short list.

Not at those prices, I plan on having the right stock the first time I buy! Divorces are expensive. If I pissed away that kind of cash she'd Divorce me or shoot me. I go with the measure twice cut once philosophy. LOL!
