I am not much into the AK scene, I had a few Arsenals I bought and sold over the years with little love lost. Back when I was recovering from breaking my back and going through my med board process I decided to build something ridiculous to mark the occasion and I wanted to make it an NFA item so that I wouldn't be tempted to sell it later on. I came up with a Zastava M92 PAP pistol which I filed as an SBR and added a Czech VZ58 side folding stock. My inner KAC fanboy forced me to throw on something KAC so it got a T1/2 battery cap and a Scout light mount along with the Midwest Industries Keymod optic rail (Keymod was still popular back then lol). It's obnoxious, unwieldily, the stock punches you in the face every single trigger pull and it's quite possibly the loudest rifle on earth with the Manticore Arms Night Brake at the end of the 10" barrel.

While it serves no real purpose in my arsenal I can't help but love how ridiculous it is and everyone always wants to shoot it, that is until after they pull the trigger the first time haha. I need to get a rear QD sling attachment of some sort as that's really all that it lacks. I've considered getting an AK specific suppressor for it but we all know how hit or miss these barrels can be so I doubt that will ever happen.

Post up your favorite factory built or home brew AK's below.

Get the KNS piston to tame it and a dedicated can is oversize to take into account for barrels Not being concentric...

They are certainly crude when compared to most other modern platforms but I can't help but love the stupid thing for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

Look at a VZ58 for a more refined AK type rifle and make sure it is a Czech made rifle. They are similar but also very different.

The more I use my AK's the more I have come to appreciate them. My only complaint is that I wasn't smart enough to get into them when things were much cheaper. I am sitting on a new Russian AK-74 kit that I haven't built yet. I just need a receiver and someone to build it for me.

My Bulgarian AK74 is a little finicky with the mag catch so I plan to get that sorted out when I can. I do like it and the 5.45 caliber.

My Saiga based Arsenal in 7.62 has been flawless. The KNS piston made that rifle very soft shooting which surprised me. I appreciate the small refinements the Russians have made to the platform.

@Bantam1 I feel the same way. I wish I would have bought a VEPR or two a few years ago. There are some good AK’s out there and the K-USA 103 dropping later this year.

I am familiar with that gun, I snuck the folding stock on the PAP above from one haha. I just might be able to talk myself into another AK at some point. That K-USA 103KR looks pretty tempting, any idea what it's going to cost and when it'll be out?

According to the K-USA site they will be a little over 1K and while expensive it is a fully US made rifle. Another option is the new Palmetto State AK-E. PSA is using a FN barrel and coated bolt carrier. The AK-E is mid $800’s. You can always be like me and get in mine for a Zastava ZPAP M70.

Have come to respect the AK myself and picked up my first one finally. So got in on one of the first batch of AKE’s from PSA. Ultimak rail and a Holosun 503. Wasn’t sure I wanted to go full T1/2 on it and wanted to try a Holo. Need to add a light and maybe swap the stock. Hate the trigger as its light and there is ZERO wall( ALG AKT).

Please update the board on how the AK-E performs. That one is on my short list.

I played with the KVAR 2 stage trigger at SHOT. I think they have two versions and the one I liked was the enchanced or match or some shit like that. I will be changing to that trigger over the ALG. The way those triggers work there is no sear or hard stop/catch like we are used to. The fall off the cliff type trigger does make it a little unpredictable. The ALG triggers are fast but tough to shoot accurately without a lot of practice.

Hell I am still running the Tapco G2, no real complaints for the money but I built this thing back before the ALG stuff took off.
