Well it appears that Moose are not 338 Lapua proof. Not a long shot, only 186 yards, (no I did not mill it). He took 3 pills, all three right behind the shoulder all with in a 1 inch circle. Damn thing just stood there letting me shoot him. They get dumb in the rut.

Re: Alaska Moose

Nice bucky!

Brings back memories and the amp to go home. Just looking at the open sky allows me to breath compared to being squeezed here in KY.

Boy is hunting now, hope he gets lucky too, walk in only area off the Denali we hunted before, he got a couple birds already. I would rather have bou though!

Amazing how a moose can absorb a 375 but another one will go lights out with 7-08.

Once again, nice bucky!

I hit the critter at about 200 yards, All 3 rounds hit within a 1 inch circle right behind the front sholder. First round was a 250 gr Scenar, The Moose just shook that hit (note to self, not to use as a hunting pill) The next two pills were Barnes MRX 250 Gr, Both gave a big old smack. I dont know what Barnes round I found but I'll post a pic of it and it did not prefore well at all, other then killing the moose I guess.

He was dead on his feet with the first round and was in a real nice spot where I could get the 4 wheeler. I did not want him to run off. Hence the three pills. As for moving the point of impact, did not want to destroy anymore meat then I had too. You know, a Lapua messes up meat REAL bad!

I have heard that a fast en ou gh bullet - the animal may not even feel it.
When they do feel it is when they get scared and run.

Just what I heard.

We put 2 shots from a 45-70 in the same place and he still stood there until I put a 180 gr behind his head on his neck and dropped him (1989)...

AlaskaMan is that the Tanana flats??
Looks like some territory I've stomped through in the past, either Delta Junction or Fairbanks area??

Now from what I can tell - depending on the rack spread- looks to be a 3 or 4 year old moose- that should be some TENDER eating there!!!!
