just finnished some testing of this powder over my regular rl-15. my pet round is a 175 berger otm with 44 grains rl-15 neck turned to .014 and a .333 neck size seated to 2.815 w 210m primer . my weapon is a 5r milspec with a glass bed and vortex hd 5x20 in 308 cal. I'm not the best trigger puller by any standard but hitting 1k with my spotter is a regular deal. best 3 shot group under 5 inches (luck for sure).
ok I grabbed a small jug of this alliant 2000 and had some pretty good velocity increases with out over pressure signs until 48.5 grains with some slight ejector marks. I chronoed the test rounds with my 35p.
Keep in mind my pet load sends the berger 175 at 2700 fps with a sd of 9, and the 178 match hornady 2720 w sd 15. I had some hornady 178 match with the higher bc and used them for the test. the groups at 200 were not impressive but im new to this long range stuff and it could be the nose behind the trigger(me)
at 48grains my 35p gave 2838-2827
2852-2838
2849-2828
2867-2850
2863-2837
2852 h
2827 l
0023 spread
2836 avg
0009 sd
it only shot a 2 inch group at 200 which could be me!! but the best I could do with this 178 hornady match and rl 15 was 2720 with an sd of 12. This round will do well at 1k and stay ss till 1205 yards. with the new speed it will almost reach 1300 yards ss. Im looking for suggestions.. does a low sd mean an accurate round ????????? just want to know what you all think.
ps viging lapua brass used for test. Thanks in advance.
PPs those berger otm tactical are bad a** in my book. regards, Steve
