I've never worn it in the field without a bino harness overtop of it. It didn't bother me at all when I first got it and threw it on to get it adjusted correctly. So I think it's reasonable to think that without a pack and a bino harness over the top of it, I would likely experience less discomfort, if any at all.
I felt the nylon shoulder straps and buckles were waaay overkill for my uses, not to mention the shoulder straps stretched too much for my liking. The holster itself also seemed larger than necessary and this is where most of discomfort came from. The edges of the holster (not the buckles or straps) was what was digging into my side/stomach.
However, if it's designed for tactical/LEO/Mil use than perhaps there was justification for needing that beefy design. Perhaps I would benefit from a "light" version with 1" nylon straps, 1" buckles, and a slightly smaller footprint for the holster. But I don't know anything about kydex and how much "lip" needs to be there for strength and durability.
In terms of practicality and functional design, it worked just as intended. My grip stuck the side of my harness just enough to draw quickly and aside from my range finder pouch, it didn't really get in the way of anything.
