Just like the title says...tried a GFI kenai holster last year and thought it was ridiculously uncomfortable under my bino harness. Any other similar options for chest carry that allow you wear a bino harness and backpack?

Hill People Gear front packs, great option depending on the size of handgun you want to carry.
In assuming that replaces a bino harness and a holster with an all in one combo?

I've looked at HPG before but didn't like the idea of the gun and the binos floating around all willy nilly like in a chest rig like that. Is my presumption incorrect? Is there some type of divider or rention system to keep both in place?

Also...they are zipper pouches... How would one access your side carry quickly?

How comfortable is/was the holster alone? And with a backpack, sans binos. I’ve been looking at getting one for hiking, biking, tractor and yardwork. Mine will be for a G17

I've never worn it in the field without a bino harness overtop of it. It didn't bother me at all when I first got it and threw it on to get it adjusted correctly. So I think it's reasonable to think that without a pack and a bino harness over the top of it, I would likely experience less discomfort, if any at all.

I felt the nylon shoulder straps and buckles were waaay overkill for my uses, not to mention the shoulder straps stretched too much for my liking. The holster itself also seemed larger than necessary and this is where most of discomfort came from. The edges of the holster (not the buckles or straps) was what was digging into my side/stomach.

However, if it's designed for tactical/LEO/Mil use than perhaps there was justification for needing that beefy design. Perhaps I would benefit from a "light" version with 1" nylon straps, 1" buckles, and a slightly smaller footprint for the holster. But I don't know anything about kydex and how much "lip" needs to be there for strength and durability.

In terms of practicality and functional design, it worked just as intended. My grip stuck the side of my harness just enough to draw quickly and aside from my range finder pouch, it didn't really get in the way of anything.

I us a GS Chest holster GLock 29, similar to GFI but was less expensive. No complaints but had to try different positions to get the best results while wearing a bino harness. I use an Eberlestock Nose Gunner bino harness, really like it for bino use, it has a pouch you can put a handgun in, but it is small. I used to carry a glock 27 in it but got tired of it slipping out when I would bend over. I'm sure velcro on the holster would stop it from coming out of the harness but I wanted to carry a 29 which was a little to much for the pouch.
