Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

I believe a certain George Gardner of KC won the match (assuming I read the standings correctly). Congrats to you for persevering under what I understand were pretty bad rains and winds.

So, who built your rifle and what are the specs (tongue firmly in cheek)?

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

If they ever do another Winter Match, I want to come shoot it. I can always blame really bad shooting on extreme weather conditions.

I commend your modesty.

Were you shooting a 7WSM or other?

Also - what rain gear seemed to work best for those who stayed?

It was a 308 Only match. Everyone got soaked I believe, My setup worked for a couple hours then I started getting wet. Sean little had on his USMC Gear and he seemed the least wet. My boots were dry and thats what mattered most the guys with wet feet were hurting the worst.

Yeah Rob, we make a handsome couple don't we?? And we have celebrity John Goodman spotting for us!!

The pic of GA George shooting off the boulder has to be one of the best ASC pics I've seen!

Conditions tested your gear for sure, that pic is from late Saturday and was the only time I was cold, walking back up the hill after the shot got going again.. The wind made for some interesting holds shooting our slow & weak 175's for sure. George said we were throwing rocks.

Congrats to George for some total lights out shooting, and big ++ thanks to Rod, Brock, Matt, Trey, Jeremy, the prize table sponsors, etc for the invite and privledge of shooting the best match around. Great to see all the old friends and meet the new ones. Hope to be back on the mountain w you'all next year.

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

It was sur great to be there again!!! 2 years is way to long to be without ASC and the tenderloin. Rod, Brock and the whole ASC crew are the best of the best. I also want to thank all the sponsors like GAP, Pierce Engineering, APA, Corbon, SAS (the can I couldnt have dammit), USO, Badger, Mike Miller, and the many others Im forgetting. See you guys soon.

Thanks again for the best shooting period.

Jon,
You and the man child Brad (aka Rockstar) deserve a boost for even showing up at oh dark thirty Sunday given how sick you guys were. The look on your faces wasn't pretty, glad you kept your heads down and made it.

The views were incredible w the rain and fog moving thru the valley.

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

The only reason the three stooges (Jim, Sam and I) did so good is because we worked together as a team and spotted wind calls and concured on all the shots we took. That is the name of the game right, shoot, move, communicate.

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

For the record so everyone knows the Brahams left cause Daniel was way too sick to be on that mountain. I know Chuck won the rifle and left the next day but that was only to get his extremely sick brother home. For the record.

I posted this on another post and I'm putting it here as well.

Not all of us bailed. I know for a fact that myself, Pete Pi, and Dave asked to stay on the mountain. There may have been others??? The way it rolled in my eyes was this. Rod was put in a bad spot. Weather was crap and it wasn't really the fact that people were cold. There simply wasn't anything to shoot at. He made the best call he could at that point in time based off the conditions at hand. It wasn't my personal opinion that we leave but Rod bares the burden for the group and made the best decision he could at that time. So in the end our group took all misses for every target that we didn't shoot which came to a lovely 48 additional points. This at the end of the day was the fairest way to handle it.

WARNING to future ASC shooters.................

You may get sprinkled on
The wind could possibly blow more than you are used to
It's always wet in the morning
The weather changes fast
Very rarely are conditions great
Be prepared for Mother Nature
If you show up to the prize table at the end of day 1 you damn well better be there on day 2!

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

George,

Where is the pic of you covered chin to toe in mud?

I also wanted to mention that the guys from your shop represented GA Precision in the best possible light. They are a great bunch of good natured and helpful guys. I'm glad you unchained them for the weekend.

Best,
David

Jered,

It was great getting to see you and Dave, and I know everyone there appreciated the work you guys did with the new shooters weekend and the kick-ass rifle you put on the goody-table. Hopefully next time we will be on the same squad so I can assist in overpowering any pussies that might decide they would rather do their precision shooting on the Internet instead of out in the elements.

You guys definitely got the raw end of the deal, but you handled yourselves very well with what could have been an ugly scene.

I hope to get a chance to shoot with you guys again in the near future.

Best,
David

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

Congratulations George. What rifle, barrel twist, bullet, powder fps were you using? George is a great guy, last spring he checked out my jewell trigger in my AR10 before dinner Sat giving it the OK. On the mountain he was giving great advice when asked. As for the weather ASC2 was the worse with it raining all day Sat&Sun. Blaster

We briefly discussed it on the mountain, but I don't remember seeing you with your camera out at all.

By the way, excellent spotting!
Your calls were absolutely perfect.

Phil,

No pics from Alumni Weekend worth posting. Hearing the stories of all the cameras and other devices that got fried the day before due to water, I rarely pulled it from the pack.

Perhaps they will hire a videographer for the next match. Footage of us huddled around in the driving rain on Narrow Back waiting for a hole in the clouds so we could see the target and then everyone diving on their rifles for that 30 second shot window between squalls would have been priceless.

It was great seeing you guys again. If you get to the west coast for work or other let me know, there are a few matches out this way you would enjoy.

Best,
David

Yeah that looks like Hogstooth's beenie, vest/chest rig and that baby tripod he uses (training wheels).

We spent some time together in rain and freezing temps early this year. We were all miserable, so I feel for the guys in this event.

How did he do?

Re: Alumni ASC Match Photos, The Wet Weekend

Yea my mental focus for shooting in the cold rain has about had it, if I'm shooting, its in the fucking cold and rain!!! I shot like shit, I think I have been doing this for 15yrs and I think I have gotten to shoot in nice weather about 1/2 dozen times total. Yea yea I'm complaining and being a puss!!! I will have to go back thru my pictures and see if there is one of me not shooting in Gore tex and cold weather gear.

The match was awesome, I don't have any pics from our weekend but I do have pics from the new shooter weekend that I will post. As what the others said, Brock the meal was definately awesome and you ran things really smooth on sunday for us, thanks to you, Rod, Trey, Don, Matt and the other RO's for another great weekend.

Thanks to George and Matt for building me an awesome rifle, just got to spend a little more time with her to see how she likes me to pet her. I won the rifle back in Jan at the Practical Marksman match that Capt Huskey puts on down in Alabama, if it weren't for crews from George and Jered Joplin donating their time materials and talent to building those great rifles I would be shooting an old M40A1 at the match. Thanks guys, your work is amazing and thanks to Pete P, Dave K, Mike Miller, and all the others that also donate such great prizes and consistenly supporting the matches. ASC isn't the only matches these guys support and they consistently donate things all the time and I just want to say how much everyone appreciates it.

Awesome to get to see a bunch of guys I haven't seen in a long time Jim, Rec Shooter, Coasties, Clark, Jon Lester and son, getting to meet a few new people, and getting to meet Jered Joplin at the new shooter weekend. Great time and great people!! Always makes it the best no matter how I shoot or what the weather is! I will eventually make the transition back to something other than desert gear I promise, its either buy bullets or gear, and right now its bullets!!

Later
