....who wants a KAC PDW in 6x35mm PDW?
I think it is one of the most overlooked, potentially-consequential cartridges for small arms development in the last 70 years, and I don’t say that lightly.
Imagine the new case technology and that cartridge in those tiny magazines.
Their published velocity for a 65gr from a 10” barrel is 2425-2450fps.
With the high pressure steel case ammunition, you could crank that to 2850fps.
It’s right about there already with 10” 5.56 velocity.
From 11.5” to 13” barrels, it does even better without even using the steel case tech.
From a 13” barrel, using the steel case like we’re seeing from Back Arc Munitions, Federal, and others, it would crank a 65gr at 2950-3000fps. Put a 30˚ shoulder on it and develop some optimized form factor projectiles for it, to include EPR, and it’s done.
The magazines are really tiny for it too. They almost feel like M2 Carbine mags, so you can carry a ton of rounds and not even feel it, which is a huge consideration for setting up the soldier’s load with modern armor.
This is really what most soldiers need, not an M4.
You can reduce the soldier’s load, increase his round count, reduce recoil, while matching or exceeding 5.56 performance.
He doesn’t need a freaking 12-14lb 6.8x51 Wunderwaffen magnum.
The KAC PDW weapon itself weighs 4.5lbs.
That applies to many of the duty positions within the Infantry Line Company as well.

The Army went totally in the wrong direction with NGSW. A mix of weapons like the ICAR and the KAC PDW would make so much more sense.
Reduce the total weight of issued ammunition while increasing the round count, without reducing any of the ballistics performance.
Reduce the individual and total weight of the weapons while decreasing the barrel lengths of all weapons.
Have an Arms Room approach so combat arms units can configure the force appropriately, so Line-level key leaders can choose between something like an ICAR and a KAC PDW for the mission.
Regardless of what the military does, I’ve wanted a KAC PDW ever since I saw it.
