Ok, so every where I go like Midway USA do not have any ammo, an what's worst, they haven' a clue when they will get it. I, like a lot of us, don't understand why they can't get it. It's beyond me. They are the super powers of the firearms retail business. So I was bored, while I waited for dinner to be ready, and decided to do a little surfing. I hardly ever go into Gunbroker, but that's where I ended up. Clicked on the ammo section for the first time, and what did I find? Everything. Every type rifle ammo I keep hearing a lot of people say there's none of. Some prices were a bit high, but not crazy. Some were the same as Midway with less for shipping. Example: Wolf Extra Target Match .22 rimfire was at $8.00 per 50, same as Midway. You did have to buy a 5000 round case of it, but WTF, you will use it up, and maybe sell some to freinds. FGMM 168s, and 175 also anywhere from $24.00 a box to $40.00 a box on the high end.

So, the ammo is out there, just why is it that the giants can't get it. They can't even offer an explaination. I'm fine for now, but maybe some of you still looking might want to know.

I'd wager that a lot of that ammo was bought by hoarders and others hoping to make HUGE profits. Which many probably did 4-5 months back.

Things have finally started to stabilize and they are selling their ammo to get out of it before prices drop any further.

Look where AR mags were 5 months back. Now they are languishing on dealers shelves tagged at very reasonable prices.

Supply and Demand.

Believe me when I say that I understand supply and demand. My question still is, how do these small time players get it, and Midway can't. Midway still can't, so I doubt the market has caught up yet. Most are selling at resonable prices considering the big boys still don't have any to compete with.

I've heard people say that sometimes larger companies will try to replenish their inventory before putting it back up for sale. Maybe they are getting shipments, just not selling them, yet? Could be a bogus theory, I did hear it on the interwebz, after all.

Well, the bottom line is that there is availability, and at some what resonable prices. Just not from the sources that we are use to ordering from. I hope the info will help someone looking for ammo.

Midway gets it. It's sold out immediately. Just sign up for notifications. Once you get that notification, you have about 30 minutes til its gone again. The items on GB come from places like midway.

Large companies like Midway buy a lot and sell a lot; and fast. That's why they are big, that's why they make the big bucks and that's why they are out.

I know you are thinking... Well why is it the same price on GB as Midway? Ill tell you why... 3 months ago the price was quadruple on GB compared to Midway. Everyone saw this and signed up for notifications... Camped out at Walmart... Ect ect all in the name of turning an easy buck. Well now that all the horders are neck deep in 22lr and primers, they are now appearing on store shelves. All these assholes that stocked up on in the name of price gouging are now freaking out that they have a shit ton of ammo and will most likely LOSE money on it so they are trying to unload it as fast as possible. I hope these gougers have a flood and render that ammo unusable. I hate f@cking gougers. The ammo companies saw what the market beared since the first of the year and we will now see a 20% price increase from the factory. Thanks a lot assholes. I hope you die a slow painful death!

mikeltee identified a big part of the recent problems... gougers.

aside from that, if anyone can learn anything from the most recent "shortage" it should be to STOCK THE FUK UP when stuff you want is available and reasonably priced.

the same thing happened about five years ago (I wonder why?) and somehow a lot of people didn't learn to buy deep.

You are right and we all know that it's going to happen again. Hopefully later than sooner. Thank God we have the NRA else we would be chucking stones at criminals by now. Most of us here are quite knowledgable and avoid panic buying. It really sucks for us though when we get new toys like a new caliber and such and never had the need to stockpile for it.This happened to me with the 338lm. Instead of paying triple for primers and 300gn Bergers, I back ordered. Yea it took 4 months to get here but I now have enough to last for 5 years and I got it for normal prices.

Just go to GunBot.net web link. You will find many places with inventory of many calibers. To back up the thought that supply lines are starting to replenish, the last couple of trips to Cabela's has proven to be surprising. They have had a decent selection of ammo and believe it or not, powder and primers on the shelf. As in the way of weaponry, AR15's were not an issue as there were no less than four racks of AR's including Colt, S&W, DPMS, Wyndham and a couple of others in .223 and .308. A little more time and things will continue to calm down and before you know it, the hours of searching the net for supplies will be reduced to minutes.
