hey guys i am sure everyone knows about the ammo shortage. my question is what calibers are going to be fazed out or very hard to find. i own a .300 win mag. hopefully i dont have to worry.

Re: ammo shortage

I do not think I have an answer for your question but I will share what I was told at a local gunshop last week. They not not have a good stock of any rifle ammo and are expecting all commercial rifle ammo to be very short this fall. The reasoning being that the commercial loaders are concentrating on pistol ammo at this time and rifle ammo is not receiving the manufacturing time slots as in the past. This is third-hand and probably an opinion, so take it for what it is worth.

Think reloading!!!!

Re: ammo shortage

I dont know of any calibers being phased out, that is usually based on popularity and performance. You can expect to see specific calibers being in short supply. .223, .308, 9mm, .45acp just to name a few. A lot of ammo makers have government contracts that get attention before the public. Then there are other calibers that use brass, and/or bullets based on those calibers. So reloaders will see a shortage there as well. e.g. the .243 is based on .308 brass. Other calibers like 30-06, .300 winmag, .300 wsm, and several others use a .308 bullet. Manufacturers are also not putting out as much powder and primers and putting them into loaded ammo, probably for their contracts as well. After that you have the general public. Lots of competition shooters, hunters, and private shooters. Lastly, you have those who think the world is coming to an end. Those are the ones who almost never shoot, but probably have more ammo and reloading components than the hunters, comp. shooters, and private shooters combined.

Re: ammo shortage

Desertrat, Amen to your view.
I done sum shooting up your way... My mom was living below the red rocks for about 10 years while I was in the Corp.... Those were the days..... Before they filled those last few square miles with golf courses and casino's:)

Re: ammo shortage

Center of town is where thats all at. I live in the north end, its quiet here. I like going through Redrock when I have to go to Vegas, thats a nice drive. Out here is great. I can drive 10 minutes out of town and be able to set up targets a mile out. Only gone to 550 though. Need to invest in a quad. Thanks for your service, BTW
