    Hello All,

Does anyone has a suggestion for a economical analog pocket barometer? There is a couple online that I have seen, just wasn't sure if you all had any experience with them.

I prefer analog as I am not too keen on having to rely on electronics and batteries in the field.

    Thanks,

    Loud.

I purchased a HighGear pocket unit from REI. Reads absolute (uncorrected) pressure as well as altitude, temp compass etc. For $50 bucks, I've found it very accurate and repeatable. Like you, I prefer simple.

    Hope this helps.

Ooops, I see you said analog. This unit is digital but basic and simple.

    It's this one:

Highgear Weatherport Weather Station FREE S&H 20136HG. Highgear Weather Instruments.

Like I said, very pleased with it. It's been on more than a few airplane rides, and it always returns to within a few hundred feet. It can easily be re-zeroed. I use it to gather my DA data. Fits in your palm. For $50 bucks.....

To be honest, dunno if I've seen n analog barometer outside of a museum.

    Hope this helps.

Unless you're worried about EMP style failures in the field, I wouldn't worry too much about batteries and electronics. I use my Casio Pathfinder watch and it is very accurate, tracking right along with both of my Kestrels. It's solar powered, so no ultimate reliance on batteries either like many devices (Suunto, High Gear, etc.) either.

However, if you're looking for strictly analog, there's a few pieces of gear out there. My dad (old school) uses a Sun brand altimeter, and it tracks fairly close to true. I can't speak to the barometer on it, but it's hard to get a specific reading from it either being on the inner portion of the needle. Well there you go! Didn't think you could find one that didn't have a happy face, or a little rain symbol or something!

Thanks. I might just order one up to have.

I currently set my ballistics up off of powder/atmospheric temp and absolute barometric correction.
Im not really in need of an "altimeter", just the straight barometric pressure reading.

This is my first iteration... This is based off chronograph sets and BC G1 data. It has yet to be validated at different temps and baro readings.
