Rifle is a Rem 700 in .308. Scope is Leupold MK4 6.5-20. I'm considering a base with some elevation built in, but don't want to screw up my ability to shoot as short as 100 yards. The rifle will primarily be used for competitions out to 600 yards, but I'd like the capability to go longer if the opportunity ever presents itself.

Can I get away with a 20 MOA base, or should I do something else?

You shouldn't have any problems getting a Leupold Mk4 6.5-20 scope zeroed at 100yds with a 20MOA base. That scope should have approx. 70MOA of internal adjustment, so combined with a 20MOA base, you should still have plenty of range for zeroing at 100yds.

According to Leupold your scope has 70 MOA of adjustment. That's 35 MOA up and 35 down. So a 20 MOA base would seem to be a save bet. That will give you 55 MOA up and 15 MOA down.

Another way to go is buy a 0 MOA base, and a pair of Burris Signature Zee Rings w/ the plastic inserts. You can use the inserts to get O MOA, 10 MOA or 20 MOA, from your rings, not the base.

I prefer a good solid 20 MOA base, but have used the Zee Rings method when no angled base was available for one of my rifles.

Thanks for the quick responses. I just ran it through Ballistics FTE to confirm, and you are all, of course, correct.

BTW, it's nice to find an internet forum that has less than the usual amount of BS and stupidity. You guys are allright.
