Rifle Scopes Angled spotting scope for Service Rifle - any rec?

Re: Angled spotting scope for Service Rifle - any rec?

Very hard $ to get anything decent. I would haunt Ebay looking for a classic Unertl, but face it, you probably have a $2000 rifle, so going cheap on the second most important component may not be wise.

I just ordered a Bushnell 20-60x80 Legend with the 45degree eyepiece, can't say yet how it performs.
I have used a 20x60 spotter from Champions Choice for years with no great problems. As long as somebody is in the pits marking your target it's not hard to see the marker at 600 yards. 1000 yards might be a problem seeing the markers.

The Konus scopes are pretty popular around here among HP shooters. You can get them from Jim Owens for $255 here:

They are good for the money. Not a Kowa, but excellent value for 1/3 the price.

Good luck,
Erik

My Kowa TSN 822 was a couple hundred more than that, but is the nicest spotter I have looked through. As nice as the ones costing double, IMO.

Since getting a 5-25 S&B PMII on my rifle, I have found less use for it though.

Very nice spotters, if you can find a used one, it wouldnt be much more than what you want to spend.

The Konus scopes get good bang for buck reviews, as well.

I would argue that a spotter is far from the second most important part of the package. Firstly, rifle scope. Then rifle. Then ammo. Technique. Etc.. I got by for years without a spotter. JMO.

If you are talking about glassing distant hills for game like in your avatar, I would think a spotter increases in value. But even then, I think I would rather be behind my Leica binos.

If you shoot service rifle at 200, 300 and 600 yards save your money and get a 82mm Kowa. There is a reason these scopes dominate the high power/service rifle lines. Nobody makes a better scope in that price range. If you shoot reduced courses, say 100-200 yards you wont need top quality glass 300 dollars for a Bushnell or a Leupold should work fine. A good scope will also help when keeping score.
