Got a pressure regulator installed for the Anealeez. There's a good write-up on Giraud's, but they use a different torch.

No big surprises:
  1. Hose threads are straight M10x1

  2. There's an orifice at the back of the torch that must be removed. This necessitates removing the check valve it depresses.
  3. The regulator is 0-60psi. Initially I tried a small 0-20psi and had difficulty flowing enough gas to light the torch. For consistency, run the torch wide open and adjust pressure to meet your needs.

    2. Pick a gauge with 1/4 NPT threads, I already had this one.

To answer the burning question of why:
Internal bottle pressure will vary with temperature. As propane is drawn off, the temperature and pressure will drop. You might notice this on big batches or when using a summer "recipe" in your cold garage. At 90F bottle pressure is 150psig, down to 64psig at 40F.

As-purchased, the torch uses an inlet orifice to reduce bottle pressure, then the torch valve works as a second, adjustable, orifice. This works well enough for most tasks, but orifice flow depends on upstream pressure. Regulators hold the pressure constant and eliminate variables.
