A friend wants to do the Guardian GTI team match in Nov 2021. We both want to use it as a focus point for getting into shape and shooting more. Winning, in this case, is being in the game.

I spent what $$ I had a year or so ago, and tried to make a Savage AXIS in 223 suitable for a match gun. My options are limited by being left handed. The experiment didn't work but it's going to be my training rifle as I build up for the match and save up for a different rifle.

Looking forward to learning from you all.

Welcome to the Hide from Pickens County. Where do you shoot? I go over to Elbert County GA which gets me to 400 yards.

Charleston, SC area. A couple of local ranges go out to 600+. One guy runs classes and shoots over a pond; they hit ~1700.

My personal competition record is 464 yards in Ga. I was squatting on a five foot high pallet, sitting at 45 degrees, using a borrowed rifle, figuring out data from the ammo box's listed velocity, and enjoying my first match. Honestly, it was probably more luck than skill that hit the plate.

I've hit steel at 600 with the AXIS with coaching and someone's handloads.
