as the primer disaster continues i am going to reload some .308 175smk using the #34 CCI 7.62mm primer. anyone used this before and what are the results? wondering if they are more of a magnum type primer or not. anyone?
I havent messed with them much but my limited use and my understanding is that they simply have a harder/thicker cup to avoid slamfires from autoloaders/floating firing pins like the Garand.

According to the CCI web site, they are considered a magnum primer. Usually 1 to 1.5 grain less powder will keep you out of trouble, unless you are right at the ragged upper edge on your load.
Actually from using Federal 210M, Federal 215M and CCI 250 primers in a 308 Win., I've found that at least with IMR 4064, no adjustment in powder charge was needed with those primers.
The MilSpec primers are intended for use in Military chamberings with military canister-speed powders. Generally stuff very much like 4895, BLC-2, and W748. Accuracy-wise they are roughly comparable to a standard, non-match primer, and would likely have a higher brisance in order to ensure reliable ignition.
